Coldest Lightning ever?

When I went outside this morning to start my Lightning to go to work, the temperature was negative 40 degrees farenheit. No kidding! Has anyone ever experienced anything colder? For those of you that are wondering, I have heaters attached to the engine block, oil pan, and tranny to allow the truck to start. Even synthetics turn to sludge at such an insanely cold temperature. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone had me beat in starting their Lightning at a colder temperature.

P.S. If you don't believe me then go to CNN.com/weather and type in area code 99705

jrjen2,

What do you do in North Pole? I lived in AK for years, just moved to Seattle last summer. I can honestly say I don't miss it.

Question

What would possibly make you want to subject yourself or your truck to that ?

The truck may be mine, but I belong to the United States Air Force. In fact my wife and I both do.... both Staff Sargeants. This is our third winter here, but the first with the Lightning. We originally were planning on placing a 2002 L on order last Labor Day so that we could buy it and miss the winter. But, when we went to the SVT dealer in Anchorage they had our 2001 L and so we bought it. We will be seperating from the Air Force next fall, so this will be the only winter that the L sees in these kinda conditions. We will probably be moving back to Ohio or Illinois so you can look for us to be active at clubs, meets, etc. in the midwest. We are pretty isolated up here. I have never contacted Ford about a commercial because there are a hundred other Fords on the road up here and I am not unique when thrown into that basket, but I did write an article for SVT Enthusiast about life near the arctic circle in an L. Hopefully they will publish it.

P.S. The temperature this morning was fifty below, but it's Saturday and I don't start the L unless I have to.

I feel for ya. I was in the USMC stationed just north of Chicago on Lake Michigan and one night out on the flight line, it was -60 with the wind chill. Sucked! At least your not dealing with the cold nights in Afghanistan. Peace

-40 degrees is incomprehensable to us So. Cal boys. You can die if you get stuck out in that cold. It was 80 degrees today cruising down through the San Fernendo valley on Friday afternoon.
