Exhaust vs. warranty

Has anyone taken any crap from a dealer about having an aftermarket exhaust on their L?

Full, catback, mufflers only.....doesn't matter.

Just wondering if they'll try to void the warranty.

do you mean the exhaust part of the warranty? If so, who cares. If not, please elaborate.

If you remove the cats, they may flat refuse to work on it.

I dont care about the exhuast warranty.

hmmm

i know of some dealers who will complain heavily if you touch the cats.....but from the cat back usually won't cause any pissing and moaning. I think removing or swapping the cats is tampering with emmissions components which will void your warrenty outright...just my opinion

You are going to get many differing opinions on this subject. If you mod cat-back, it will just void the warranty on the stock mufflers and exhaust. If you remove or it can be shown that you modified, changed or removed the cats, it could void the emission warranty for the vehicle. I doubt that it could void the warranty on the rest of the vehhicle or the drivetrain.

If you have doubts, talk with your Ford service rep. If warranty is a major concern, do nothing until it ends.

What cracks me up is the guys who will mod the hell out of their vehicle and when it breaks hopes that Ford will pick up the repairs. What happened to the ethics of "you broke it, you fix it?"

FireGuy:

Thats exactly what I'm worried about. Fixing (funding) it myself.

I dont have the patients to wait for the warranty to end!

I only waited to about 10k miles on my '99

I believe if I mod something on the truck, thats the only part that should be voided!

I feel your pain. I have 1380 miles on my Black '02 and can't wait to do exhaust, tranny and air mods followed by a chip sometime. I don't have deep pockets, so I will pick and choose my mods carefully until I can afford to fix it myself.

I don't plan on track racing just bumping a few guys around on the street sometime, it just makes it more fun to have that one more mod to give me that edge.

What I am saying is, check with a friendly dealer service tech. I called acouple when I had my Expy and they answered all of my warranty and computer chip related questions. I pretended i was going to buy an identical vehicle and asked what they would accept as warranty work etc.

Call an out of area dealer and ask, what can you lose, a little time and a dime.

I've replaced mufflers on both of my last 2 LEASES,and nobody has said squat.I figure if they say something just tell them it got torn off by something in the road and you replaced it.If they get that crazy over warranty's then its time to find another dealer.
