windshield and cold weather
windshield and cold weather
here is a question for anyone in cold weather climates and for any vehicle they have owned, not L related...
started L up the other day and some snow on the windshield, so turn on the defroster to melt the snow and to let the truck warn up before driving off, there was only snow on the bottom of the windshield so i left it there and let the defroster take care of it, as the truck was warming up and also the heat, a crack appeared in the windshield starting from the drivers side bottom 3 inches in rainbowing up across the windshield and rainbowing back down 4 or 5 inches on the drivers side bottom.
anyone ever hear of this, could it be a thermal condition caused by the snow and heater or a defect that warrenty would cover??

Never hear that one before. There may have been a crack there and the cold/hot could have accelerated it.
Your insurance should take care of it with no deductable.

Thats a bummer
I bet you got a little rock chip sometime where the crack started.
Sometimes they will stay just a little chip, but sometimes they will grow. If that happens a thermal shock can make them grow pritty dam fast.
Rich not all states have glass coverage as part of comprohensive insurance.
Massachusetts has it, but it is a extra charge option in New Hampshire.

Live just across the river from you "L in Detroit".
Have never had this happen to any car we've had.
Must be a fluke.... had to have a small stone chip or something....
Insurance time...thats what it's for

insurance may cover it
could have been just a weak point in the glass.....call your insurance carrier and ask them about the replacement. I believe here in mass if you have comprehensive insuance, it don't cost a dime.....

Florida is one of the only states that does the glass coverage free with comprehensive due to state regulation. Alot of companies are aloud to offer additional full glass (an addition to comprehensive that covers all glass around the veh with no deductable) coverage in some states, but I am not sure right of the bat for Michigan. I will check the guidlines for Michigan when I get back to work (I'm on dinner break) and see what your ins company is supposed to do for you. I don't see the glass company paying the deductable though. It usually dosen't even cost that much to fix. Who is your insurance company by the way?
I checked the guidlines for Michigan. If your windshield is "repairable" with that liquid glass stuff, they should pay for the repair, but if the whole windshield needs to be replaced, your deductable will apply. But definatley check with your carrier and see if there is anything else they can do for you.
