It looks like the fire is pretty bad in Trabuco canyon. A lot of that brush is over 10 years old and very thick. They have had to evacuate about 50 homes.
Let us know how you are.

Wow I saw the news this morning, those fires looked pretty rough.
We had some fires come down pretty close to us two years ago (we live close to the Angeles Nt'l Forest), it's scary to put it mildly...

LOL that's a great name for CA. The first year I was out here I experienced an earthquake and a fire...not sure why I didn't leave
I saw on the news last night that the fire didn't get any homes in the canyon.

I've been here my entire life. Been through several bad equakes and fires. I wouldn't trade it for anywhere they have tornadoes and hurricanes. Those things you KNOW are comming, and you still can't do anything about them.
Scares tha He!! out of me.

Thanks for asking! Yes, all is fine. My canyon is an odd formation that actually has reverse wind direction because it feeds the vacuum created by the Santa Ana winds blowing over the higher passes. So the fire remained downwind but we could see it from our hilltop.
I have an evacuation plan with trailers and my stuff marked to "stay" or "go" or get sunk in the pool (and there should probably be a list of stuff to be put out where we know it will "burn").
We joke that we like the insurance plan better than the floor plan but it would be truly devastating to lose this house after having worked on it and the land for 20 years.
Thanks for your concern...

Glad to hear you made out ok.
I used to live near the Whittier Hills. We had some friends who had a house up there survive a bad fire.
They had a sprinkler system on their roof that was fed from the pool. They ran the electric water pump using a gas generator.
They had to evacuate once, so they fired up the generator and left. Their house survived. Others used electric pumps that worked until the fire burned the incoming wires.
