I ordered mine a little while ago. Should be here in a couple days. I paid $130 CDN for that freakin' thing. I'm hoping it'll fit without having to gring the hell out of the truck like Chickenears. No offense man. But I just don't feel like grinding my truck to shreads just to make a fuel door fit. But now the door is mine because the dealer says it's not a stockable item, and they won't take it back. Could someone PLEASE send me a detailed description on exactly what needs to be done. Nice setup Walker887. Hoping mine will turn out like that. Did you have to 'grind' yours?

That little bit of grinding is no problem, don't worry. I'll post some pics tomorrow to show how good it'll look. The pic looks like $h!t because of the fiberglass dust, no problem.

I finally got mine door installed. I didn't need to grind my truck at all. This is what I did to make it fit.

The black clips or whatever you want to call them, I took my dremel tool and trimmed them down so the door would sit flush to the body of the truck, by doing this made the black clips slide further onto the truck and the screws lined up. For the front screws, I used same spacers between the door and truck and then on the backside between the truck and the nuts. No mods to the truck body at all.

The black clips have a (step) to them and that is what I removed. It took me sometime to figure out how to get the door to work, but after several days of thinking about it I came to this method...And it worked out perfectly....

Thanks for the input...

Thanks to all who gave their input on the fuel door installation.
I am going to try once again tonight to install it, but being
somewhat of a perfectionist, I will stop short of grinding the
bed itself. I may work the plastic "ears" as suggested in order
to get the perfect fit.
Thanks again

Marc

What little I had to grind off is covered by the outside ring of the unit anyway and it's fiberglass, no concerns about rust

Cool

Hi Marc:
Here you go. Ditto on all the other posts. I took a file and filed 2 grooves in the composite mold inside the panel, after i lined the door up perfect. I pushed the door in to bottom out the plastic L-clips, and made some rubber spacers to go behind the screw down bracket at the front, this brings the door out even with the quarter panel and fits real good.
I'll show you next time i'm up in Ohio next month. Maybe catch lunch.---Jim

I didn't even use the two black plastic clips. When to the Depot and picked up some washers etc. and played with it till it fit the way I wanted it to. So it's only held on by the two screws but I don't abuse my stuff[to much] and filling up once a week I think it will be on for a long time.Works for me.[img[http://www.cartogra.com/rs/1348E257-...77A760E/screen[/img]

Hey Jim, thanks for the input. My only concern with "shimming"
the ring out to flush it with the outer skin surface is that it could
cause some wind whistle. Maybe so, maybe not...
Sure, come on up to the plant, my office is right next to the
Executive garage on the bottom floor.
I will be in Millbore Va. to see Mike this Friday or Saturday
depending on what works best for him. Delivering the first
shipment of , OOPS, I can't tell you what, but there for sale
through him starting Monday.

Thumbs up

Yo Marc:
Ok on the trip to Milboro, Va. Mike is good people. His wife is kinda related to my wife, cousins or something. I met him at his father-inlaws funeral last year.
Was going to go the Superchip route up at his place but decided to hold off for awhile. May go J.L.'s Diablo which Mike also sells.
Anyway no whistling on the fuel door, just looks better.---Jim

My grinding paid off

Chickenears you look exactly like an old friend on mine back
in Clackamas, Oregon. No ***** man.....
Thanks for the last pic of the completed installation.
I see that you managed to get the unit "centered" in the
given opening. Looks good..
I will try again tonight to intall mine. Between what you and
Jim (01 Black Bolt) have offered, reflecting on what a hero of
mine (Rogue Warrior - Richard Marchinko) was told, " You can
not fail", I should pull it off.
Just one last question, is there a large gap between the outer
ring and the fender? Damn obsessive compulsion disorder !!!!!

Cool Marc

You can tell by the picture that the gap is a little wider than the original but it's not worth mentioning, in my opinion. Remember, these were made for a Mustang and the new door is flat. Your original door has a very slight curve to it. Therefore it's not going to fit perfectly flat with the body panel all the way around.

I used some small washers to shim mine out to the point that I'm satisfied I can't do better.

Oh yeah, about your friend, you must be a true humanitarian to befriend someone that damn ugly.

Tim
