I've heard that on '99 & newer trucks that if you unplug the odometer that the transmission won't shift. Give it a try though.

Hard to get good advice when you're trying to commit a felony.

not to flame or ne thing but why would you want to unplug the odometer if you were not going to sell it. dont you want to know how many miles are on your truck?

You can unplug the dash but you lose all your
gauges and have no speedodmeter.take your
dash apart and unplug the big clip that goes
into the the dash then put it together
it's allright but you don't know how fast your going
and don't know how much fuel how have.

haha, your truck wont crank without the cluster plugged in , try it. The cluster is on a ISO 9141 network and is the HEC module, containing the PATS functions.

I had a guy that leased a chrysler convertible. He went over his alotted amount of miles in the 3 year lease and went to a junkyard and looked for a whole instrument cluster that had less than the alotted amount of miles on it then he was allowed to have. I installed it had he returned it without a problem. I did remind him that what he was doing was illegal to cover my a$$.

If your going to unplug something, unplug the speedo on the transmission. You'll get a SES light and your speedometer won't work, but niether will you odometer.

the problem with the last suggestion is that the speedo calculates from an internal equation in the PCM, there is no speedo gear or vss anymore on the trans. The most important factor is the OSS (outout shaft speed) sensor, but it also is heavily calculated into the transmission slippage info and other stuff. There is a way to disable the speedo via the ISO network bus once the truck is running and the PATS functions have passed, without touching the cluster or transmission, but i wont get into that ( i was incriminated for my knowledge on this subject a year or two ago ).

Talking

Just a funny about driving without an odometer or speedometer :

I own my own auto-repair & towing business. I tow for our County Sheriffs Dept. & Nevada Highway Patrol. I got a call about 2 weeks ago to tow a car for our Sheriffs Dept. I get there and there is 1 Sheriff & 1 guy about age early 30's. His wife was driving and got stopped going 92 mph. This was a pretty new Toyoyo Camry. They both knew the wife had warrants for multiple FTA's . The husband had an "Expired" DL. I think alot let their license expire because they are avoiding child support. They track you through DMV in this state, and make you pay it. It's only right. I get to tow their car. Wife goes to the pokey. She looked sharp in orange & black striped coveralls & matching chrome bracelets.

He got a new DL. They let her bail out, but took $900 from her.
They paid $84.50 tow bill. He told me that he had disconnected the speedo to keep the miles off the car. He had told her earlier to slow down as the tach was reading 3500 rpms in O/D. LOL She told him to shut up and she was the one driving. (nice woman) When they picked up the car, she acted like the world owed her something. If she woulda smiled, her face woulda cracked. She tried to haggle me on the tow bill. " Take $80 and call it even?" I held out for the $4.50 and made her dig deep into the handbag. I wanted to ask if she tried to chisel the Judge when she went into court.

Moral : No havee head up hindside if you must disco speedo. LOL

Whats that? 71,200 miles? Did you make a typeO? I don't understand why you'd want to disconnect the od in the first place!
