2002 Modular Shootout
2002 Modular Shootout
Power Surge Performance is pleased to announce that for the 3rd year in a row, we are sponsoring the Lightning portion of the Modular Shootout annual event.
The Mod Shooutout was created to highlight the new breed of Ford power, the modular engine. While in the past the Mod Shootout was strictly for Mod Motor cars, this year non-mod motor cars (i.e. Gen 1 Lightnings) can compete in a bracket eliminator class. The Lightning class itself is for Gen 2s only.
This year the event has been moved back to it's original home at Cecil County Raceway in MD. It should be a great event, and should be a chance for those who have never raced there, to turn some best ETs. As usual, a large group full of Lightning owners has the potential for a heck of a good time. I have met many of the Cecil regulars, and hope to see as many of you there as possible. I am aware that the date for this event conflicts with a FFW, but when this event was scheduled, there was no FFW, FFW changed thier date causing the conflict.
Needless to say, it will be a great time for all, with a nice payout for winner, runner up and a fastest ET bonus. The class will be an open comp bracket class, with a 1/10 breakout, on a .500 Sportsmans tree.
For all the details on the event, check out the official website at:

I look forward to seeing everyone there!!

Yea right. My best was a 2.255 60', 13.552 @ 104.91 MPH i will not have a chance. i would come though. I will be up there when cecil opens on Feb. 16 (i believe)
What do you mean about a Dial-in? My 2 runs that i have ever made were at cecil. Hell, i just go up to the line, wait for the light to turn green and go.
Jim, the vehicle must meet NHRA rules for safety to compete. Obviously this is no big secret, but the roll bar thing was stressed on the rules page because many trucks, myself included, have been turning 11 second ETs at "non-events" for quite some time. We wanted to point out that at this event, you must have the proper safety equiptment to compete, just like FFW, NMRA,m WFC, etc.. Since a 6 point bar is legal in our trucks from 11.99 to 10.00, you can compete with one if you runs 10s. So therefore, yes, you can win the Fastest ET bonus if you have a 6 point
.
Spanky, this class is bracket, not heads up. If it were heads up, then it would be "line up, stage, both trucks go at the same time, and the guy who gets there first wins". That is not how this class is set up. It is bracket, which means you make 3 qualifing runs, and the best one of the three becomes your dial. When it comes time for eliminations, your dial will be posted on the board, and you have to run as close to that number without going faster. If the other guy has a faster or slower truck, it doesn't matter because they "stagger" when the lights come down. What they do, is take the two dial ins, and they make the lights come down at times when if both drivers had perfect reaction times, they would cross the finish line even. So if you have a 14.00 truck and a 12.00 truck, the 14.00 truck goes first, then exactly 2 second later the 12.00 truck goes and has to catch up and beat the first guy to the finish line. It becomes a race of driver skill, so it doesn't matter how fast you go, anybody can win.
During normal brackets, you are allowed to change your dial between rounds. However this class is Open Comp with a 1/10 breakout. That means your dial in for eliminations is your best qualifing ET MINUS 1/10. So if your best ET was 13.35, your dial would be 13.25. Since you can't change your dial, they let you go 1/10 faster to account for weather cooling as the day goes by.

I'll Be there .. 100 miles sounds close, compared to some of you. Cecil is a nice drag strip, you will enjoy it if you have not been there..
