Chambered mufflers bad!?
I'd like to know if chambered mufflers like the Flowmasters create too much restriction in exhaust flow for any kind of boost increase. I burned up a set in less than 2000 miles. The bends in the pipes were not as good as they could have been so it may not have been just the mufflers in my case; but, I only had a chip and drop in K&N at the time also.
Any tuners interested in commenting on this one?

My borlas are pretty cool. I'm not asking for myself really. I noticed that J15BIG had the same exhaust setup that I had before I changed over. I didn't run her hard and think I may have dodged a bullet by getting them off before I started modding. If there is a posibility that using the chambered mufflers is like driving around with an obstruction in your exhaust pipe, I'd like for the info to be out there for everyone that reads the posts on this site. I'm not sure if this could be a contributing source to J15BIG's problem; but, would like for someone that really knows these motors to put this question to rest by either confirming or denying the likelyhood.

What's this system you're talking about? Something on the web page, or is it not for public consumption yet?
They were already selling them here....... https://www.truckperformance.com/?ca...0064.12.96.205 but they weren't ready to be shipped out yet.
Could the Flowmasters be any more 'restictive' than the stock exhaust? I don't think so. I have a F/M Delta 55 on my 4.6 xlt--no boost(LOL) and it's less restrictive than the stock one was.
See my sig. for the stock exhaust's numbers and 18.900 miles on it now. Those numbers came with a 3lb. pulley, open air filter, and th/body.

I was unaware that the 4.6 XLT and the L shared the same exhaust system. My bad!
The Flowmasters are good torque builders because of their restrictive nature. This means good off the line power. It also means a hotter exhaust system and poorer top end performance when compared to freer flowing exhausts like the Borla and the Magnaflow. When running high speeds for extended periods of time I think they can be a contributing factor to engine problems in the L specifically.
Flowmasters have been involved in motorsports for a long time and are used to good effect by many racers. They sound good also. I just don't think they are a good choice for a vehicle like the L, which seems to be walking such a thin line between performance and reliability. Especially the modded Ls.

Hang on guys, MAC, the foremost Mustang exhaust company is in the process of building complete header to tail pipe systems for Lightnings. I have been hoping and waiting for them to do something like this since I bought my L in 99. After having used MAC products exclusively on My Mustang and Ranger for over 10 years I have become spoiled. I do not use any other exhaust products on my vehicles. Quite simply put, in my opinion, MAC has the best sound and quality and value.
yeah i don't know if its just a bad model number (12468) or what. But i cant figure out if my restriction is comming from the crimped bent pipes from the muffler shop or my magnaflow..Every since my power has
I have a Flowmaster on my '99.
It made a big difference, both in sound (ahhhh)
and also in power (a dyno-proven 10hp across the board. . .more on the top end)
Chambered mufflers don't restrict anything.
Borla and other companies make a fortune selling that crap about flow-bench numbers and all, but I've never once put a flowmaster on a vehicle that it didn't make a SOLID 10-15 hp at the wheels.
I can't say that about any other muffler I've tried (INCLUDING BORLA & SUPERTRAPP).

Later,
Here's what I know on the topic.
On twin-turbo Mustangs, (yes, I know, totally different), those guys can pick up 30 - 40 hp by switching from Flowmasters to Dynomax. The Flows create a lot of back pressure on the turbos, measured with pressure probes in the exhaust. The engineer of the twin turbo kits has indicated that he thinks the Dynomax mufflers would be much better than Flows on a supercharged vehicle, too. I would be reluctant to put Flows on my L. Not sure if that helps or not.
Note to Tom: MAC is hardly the foremost Mustang exhaust supplier. Yes, lots of Mustangers use their products. Their prices are good, their quality is certainly suspect. I've seen more than enough unhappy people with their products that I wouldn't likely buy them. (I did have a MAC off-road pipe at one time, it was OK, I got what I paid for). For the Mustang (Fox - specific), I don't think you can beat dynomax, and they are reasonably priced, too.

have any of you guys heard of spin tech mufflers?
they make a x-pipe system for the lightning for around 350.00
just wondering because i never hear about them on this board
