Cool

The track opens Feb. 17.

I guess nobody wants to show those high dollar puppies off.

These aren't pictures of Denso's. but they are my TR-6's. I looks like they were on the ragged edge, so I went to the BR7EF's.

This picture was taken by my old digital camera through the plug magnifier. If you desregard the color (octane booster) you can see signs of heat right around the center electrode. You can also see evidence of the plug eating itself on the upper insulator. It's the little sparkly things.

Cool

Why were you running octane booster?

I had a day at the track scheduled, and was just getting detonation after the change to the winter gas. I didn't have time to get a reburn, so I had to run some booster.

I have had the chip done since. Now, I just buy 76 100 octane when I go racing. I can get at at a station about 2 miles from here.

Chuck, those plugs also had 14,000 miles on them, so they were ready for a change.

Cool

That's usually the story when I see a plug like that. I went through the winter gas thing myself. I think running a pulley makes it all the worse because I didn't have that problem last year.

On top of it all, we were reduced to 91 octane here in CA. I had to have 3 reburns last year alone. Sure beats the alternative.. a burned up engine.

I'm looking into ignition upgrades to get rid of the low speed misfire that I am experiencing with the BR7's. I have talked to MSD and Jacobs. No response yet.

MSD did say that their stacker ignition was definitely in the works and would be available sometime "soon".

A multi-spark ignition should cure the low speed misfire. The BR7's have performed well considering my limited mods. Being a daily driver, I figured I'd be the one to test their long term durability. If they are going to foul out, I guess they will in my truck. The plugs indicate that I was running close to the edge on a lean condition, so fouling may not be a big problem.

Cool

Yeah, a reburn is a good thing instead of a ping. Damn a poet and didn't know it, LOL.

Cool

RF,

You are definitely not alone. There are a bunch of us that have put thousands of trouble free mile on them. If you don't run a chip you'll never have a problem. If you run mods and start to have detonation don't throw octane booster at it. This seems to burn up all plugs but the Split's take the rap for it. A reburn should solve your problems if this happens. This applies to all plugs.

My buddy burnt up a set of splitfires in less than a week on his z-28 so I've never really been a big fan of them. However, I've had NGK's in my trx 250R, GSX-R750, 84 SVO(w/ very high boost), and now in my lightning and I've never had one problem w/ them. They are so cheap and reliable under severe conditions I can't bring myself to buy anything else.
