Long-tube headers + 4lb pulley (before & after rwhp)

I had the long-tube headers and the 4 lb lower pulley installed today. Before and after # for long-tube headers + 4lb pulley (Nitrous was not used) are as follows:

Before: 383 rwhp - 461 torque (2 lb lower pulley, bassani headers)

After: 415 rwhp - 508 torque (4 lb lower pulley, long-tube headers)

Therefore, these two mods were good for 32 rwhp and 47 torque. I wish I had dynoed the truck after each mod so that I could have determined the gain from each.

I also need to get my chip re-burned since the air - fuel ratio was 10.0. The guys at the shop said that I should be able to get at least another 10-15 rwhp by changing the air - fuel ratio to @ 12.0. Not sure if they are correct, however, I am happy with the results.

I had the work done by APEX Motorsports in San Jose. These guys are awesome!!!!! I highly recommend them..........

Dave, if you get a chance you should send me the printouts from your dyno with the chip for the reburn. Try to get graphs with the A/F on them.

Sal-

Thanks, will do. By the way, I just realized that I did not tell them to take the oil breather cap off of my truck...... Could that have affected anything??

Thanks,

Dave

Thumbs up Nice #'s

Dave,
Thanks for posting your dyno numbers on your new longtubes and 4# pulley the numbers look great! I dynoed the 2# compared to the 4# and there was 8HP and 24 pounds of torque difference between the two pullies. So I would say you picked up at least 24HP and 23 pounds of torque with just the longtubes alone! When you get your air-fuel back up around 12.0 you could see possibly another 10HP! Whose longtubes did you go with?

Matt-

Thanks for the info... The headers definitely seem to be a worthwhile investment. I picked mine up from JDM. With Sal's street program, it is hard to keep the wheels from spinning. I was amazed at the difference that these two mods made.

Dave, what else has to be done to the rest of the exhaust when the long tube header is used?

Prior to the long-tube headers, I had the full Bassani setup - headers, cats, and cat-back. The long-tube headers come with cats, and the shop used my existing Bassani cat back, however, they said that some cutting was involved to get the cats aligned with the cat-back. With the stock exhaust, I believe that you would just use your existing cat back. In other words, you would replace the headers and the cats and keep your existing cat-back. By the way, this was one of the best mods that I made. DO NOT waste your time with Bassani headers!!!!

You said the cats come with the headers??On Jims website, he lists them seperately.$300 for a pair of hi-flow cats.

You are correct - sorry for the confusion. Actually, there were several additional costs on top of the headers;

Gaskets: $26.00
Cats: $300.00
Collector Gaskets: $20.00
Flanges: $50.00
O2 Harness: $30.00

Man , I love Jim, but he should really throw in the gaskets with the headers. Most all of the header companies do.

I was told by several people including my ford mechanic that the stock steel head gasket will not have to be replaced when putting on headers, did you just want to be certain or was there damage to your stock one!
