I checked the gaps on my stock plugs when they were removed and found a range from .035 to .047. I set my TR-6s at .039, but I have 20" wheels and electric fans.

.040 is about normal for our plugs. I was still fighting detonation with the cool air and had to go to a .035 to help me out. It just depends on your mods and the density of the air. This summer you may need to go to a little wider gap.
Never trust the gaps the plugs come with. Sal said to gap my BR7EFs at .040. Always use a 'wire' type gapping gauge--never use 'feeler type gauges'--they won't be as accurate and they usually have oil on them to keep them from rusting--it's not good to get oil on your new electrodes
