Smile My Little Project

Well I guess it is safe for me to post this photo. There is nothing for sale. It is my little 4 cylinder Ranger project that I call it Mini Me. It is a 2.7 with some of the air flow issues addressed. All flanges are 1/2 polished stainless steel and the tubes are 1 5/8 321 stainless steel and I will polish the whole thing before it is done. I've designed the Mass Air system and an air to water intercooler for this setup. The nice thing is that all of my accessories stay in place so even the A/C is functional.

BABolt - I'm throwing in the wind here but, the only ranger with a 4cyl was the 2.3L and 2.5L right? So you stroked it up to 2.7? And that head looks kinda big for the normal older ranger heads so is it the newer ones with a DOHC head or did you put a DOHC head on it? Big turbo.

Okay you gotta post some more details and pictures.

Here is a photo of the combustion chamber on the head. It is a reworked 2.5L Ranger head and it is cast iron. The block is a 2.5 L block with a reworked crank. These dual plug heads and the 2.5L block are suppose to be the absolute pits and all the "know it alls" will tell you that you can never make any real power or that it will never hold together. So what other encouragement did I need to do this. Even when I go to the "Ranger Forum" I am made to feel like Rodney Dangerfield.

Question

Mike, is the truck a sleeper, or is there an indication of what lies underhood?

It's about time someone makes some power from those dual plug heads and let them guys know whats up. A few years back I had a 96' ranger that had the 2.3L engine w/ dual plugs, I knew it potential but all the guys on the Ranger board even back then said that those dual heads were no good.

BABolt prove them wrong!! And best of luck.

I guess it is a little bit of a sleeper or maybe it just has a good profile. Right now there is a little bit of a bark to the exhaust but I will get rid of that when I change the exhaust again with the turbo install. I intend to widen the rear wheels from the 17 x 8.5 to 17 x 10 and with no exhaust note I hope that people will think that I am a poser. I played those games last spring for a dyno day session with my Mustang. I put the skinniest tire on stock wheels and dead sticked the car into the parking lot. I became invisible and when it was my turn on the dyno most everyone could not believe their eyes. Three pulls in a flash and the next highest HP vehicle was about 150 HP less. I will do the same with the Ranger.

Mike, You simply never fail to amaze me! Any estimates of when your website will be complete? Oh and if you have any pictures of your mustang how about posting a few?

HankFan,
Just two photos one of the top side and one under the hood. The intake is now being changed. I took a new SVO intake and cut it apart to port and polish it. The upper plenum is divided so I changed all of that and I can now run one of my throttle bodies and will also switch over to coil on plug for a cleaner look.
