Magazine times: In-depth analysis!
Magazine times: In-depth analysis!
Well, I'm sure you've noticed that many cars, when taken to a track in stock form, don't come anywhere near what a magazine quotes for them. I speak from personal experience from when I owned the Accord:
Magazines: 15.7 - 16.3 1/4 mile times
Me: 16.28 - 17.1 1/4 mile times first time out
Granted they are professional drivers, etc. but this seems to be the case with most vehicles, stick or automatic.
ENTER THE LIGHTNING! Why is it that for our truck, and several other high performance vehicles (Z06's, C5's, Z28's, WS6's, etc.), it seems that the magazine times are actually BELOW what most of you guys can get out of the truck/cars.
-Does it mean MOST of you guys are better drivers than the magazine editors?
-Does it mean the magazine and the company building the car are actually underrating the vehicles?
Let's see what you guys think...........

I know that most magazines that i have read with the exception of the (fridge) the testing is done out west in alot higher elevation and usually done in the summer months so the times are really slow in the magazines almost worth laughing at sometimes!I have a friend that has a slightly modded truck that lives out west and at one track the best he has ever run is 13.6 but at another track a few hours away with less elevation he runs 13.0's in the same temp. along with the same 60ft. times. So you can see there can be a big difference when it comes to elevation!

vehicles in magazines perform according to dollars spent with the magazine. if your account is 90days past due, you might pull a high 17 in a ZO6, and if you pay cash before the article, that's good for a full one second deduction from your 1/4 times, in any vehicle. it is refered to as a "cash discount" and is offered to any client, including Kia
Definately underrated
Sports cars have historically been underrated. I think there is a couple reasons. One is for insurance purposes. Another is to broaden there appeal.Too big of a number does scare the wives and mothers.I am sure there are other reasons. As far a e.t.s I think most testing is done with a g-tech or similar device and also like everything else there is all the variables. examples -weather -traction-driver-etc.
Just my 2 cents, could be wrong.
p.s.-How do you like the covers? Love the wet okales.
