I'll buy that answer for sure. Mechanically you are not making more boost but phsically you are increasing cylinder pressures because the cold Nitrous cools the fuel too which results in a denser fuel charge in the cylinder. That would also result in the higher pressures, which effectively means higher compression. I would imagine that is part of the reason I think you tuners have to back off the timing in a nitrous program.

You do back off the timing don't you? *****, I'm getting out of my league and better go do some research, but, I do find this interesting and think that its a good thing for people to know what is going on with this stuff.

You get the power as a result of more fuel in the cylinder, perhaps more efficient combustion and what is effectively higher compression.

Thank you. That was the information that I was looking for.
Plus, it got us off the "nitrous on the street" subject.

I run a 2 lb. lower pulley and will shoot 100 wet shot of NOS on top of that at the track once in a while. I have never disconected my bottle while being on the street but I do have a remote bottle opener, so it can be armed at any time. There is an Industial park that a lot of street racing goes on in the summer time about 20 miles from my house. I have yet to go, a few people think, and spout how they can beat me and have tried to get me to come. They pretty much race for money there, not a lot or anything but for some. I may break down and go there this year, the Industrial park is pretty much shut down at night and if anyone did come, there is always someone at the entrance to warn if anyone is coming down. I don't condone street racing and I pretty much go to the track to race but this does sound interesting and could be some fun. As far as racing on the public roads in traffic, it is definitely irresposible and you take other (innocent) peoples lifes in your hands. I am guilty of doing this now and then but as I get older I have realized what terrible things can happen. But sometimes I still find myself being weak and participating in an occasional street race or two.
But, I agree we should try to keep it at the track, where I prefer to race and where it is legal.

Cool

Hey Guys,
Just want to thank everyone for their reply!!! Now the question is:
How much Boost w/ how much Nitrous?
One pro to the Nitrous that I see is the adjustablility factor!!!
HMMMMMMM???? 50Hp , 75Hp , 100Hp ,150Hp opps need some good rods w/ a zero balance job!!!
Wonder what I'll pick up w the Full Exhaust ,Fan, and Chip re-burn?
Anybody have some sound files on the JDM full exhaust w/X-pipe and dual mufflers?

Here is a fairly recent thread on your question. I would listen to 1badtk and his halo buddies.

Street racing in secluded areas is the purest form of racing there is.Drag strips were first built to deter this.Class divisions at tracks are the equalizer of the weak.

you won't see that boost increase on a progressive nitrous system. what everyone is seeing is the "big bang" the crank is feeling when it is hammered with an instantanious big hp increase, causing the blower reading to jump for a split second, until it recovers. it does taper back, even as rpm's rise

Tampa: I apoligize for not answering the ? directly. Yes i believe the extra boost from NO2 is due to the COLD Air charge which makes more power. I don't believe it comes from the pressure in the bottle. Also as far as running NO2 on the street I myself would not do this. But to each his own.we might be running 2 poweradders come spring. Were doing a complete Engine rebuild and will be testing some different combinations for spring...JL

How about this, when you hit the nitrous button, it injects raw fuel and liquid nitrous into the blower and this seals the rotors to the case. This might cause the boost to jump.

Usually when you cool something it shrinks. I'm not sure if cooling the air with the nitrous is going to cause a boost increase.

Since nitrous turns from a liquid to a gas at something like minus 127 degrees, maybe it has a strange effect on the intercooler, could be causing a restriction momentarily.
just some thoughts

I run both.100 shot wet,with a 3# pulley.
No problems.Just use the right plugs and get your chip properly tuned..
