Used Lightning - Purchase Advice?
used
bought mine used with 2.5k miles on it and save 5k, my father traded his 2000 superduty in for a 2000 with 4k the other night. Couple of small problems we've noticed, but that's what the warrenty is for. You will have problems even with new, that's how I ended up traded a 1 year old explorer in for my L.
Going used you beat the depreciation that comes with buying a new vechicle, and you save on taxes. There are many vehicles(especially L's)comming from ford employees that are being auctioned off to dealers at year end. Just make sure you follow the paper trail. Carfax is a must. Check for things like rear tire wear/milage...also, any tire compound i the wheel wells will note burnouts and abuse(not considered abuse to most on this board
). Check tranny fluid and check it for discolortion and smell it...see if it's burnt up. But look for the low milege vehicles, I wouldn't buy anyhing used on a vehicle like a lightning if it had more than 8-10k miles. Warrenty and extended warrenty are the key. If it breaks, they'll fix it so don't worry. Just remember L's and svt vehicles hold a better value than run of the mill models. I got mine for 26k and my father got his for close to that, both had 4k miles or less. Now is a great time to buy, if a dealer has any used or 2001' new, you may get a great price and even better financing. Good luck!

As you can see by Mark's(performanceautosport.com) site he has already dropped the price on the 2000 L's. He was a little flexible when I first spoke with him. He will tell you what he has in the truck and tell you what he can sell it for.
Since some of you experience L owners may have looked at his site what do you think of the black 2000 and the mods. I know he had the chip reburned to make the shifting better. Just some opinions, I know everybody has got some.
