Where to procure a 2001 upper grill 'insert'??

Gang,

After pondering, searching, and documenting installation tips and tricks for Street Scene grills then paying the local Goober a visit for a price, and part number, I seem to have ran into a bit of a snag.

According to the ape-drape coverall-laden member of the Ford Parts Department collective brain trust, I was informed the upper grill 'insert' was not sold seperately and therefore had to buy the entire upper portion. "What color would you like?" Uh....no thanks.

The goal is to retain the stock upper grill and procure another 'insert' for surgery.

Hence the inquiry:

Was Goober indeed correct? If so, where would be a good place to find an insert? (NOTE: junkyards and their sawzall weilding hackers are out of the question.)

Anyone have a spare they would consider, pardon the pun, parting out? If so, shoot me an email at the below address.

On a side note, I overheard a salesman talking to a potential customer about the Lightning. I'll post pics of the 'turbo charger' soon.

Thanks

Bob,
Since the Speed Grill was basically made for the 99-00 and it sounds as if you do not want to cut your old one, I would find a 2000 insert and remove the 01 you have and put the 00 in and then install the grill. that way you still have the 01 insert if you ever want to go back.
if that is your option let me know I have one.

Thumbs up

walker,

Your assessment is correct. I'm interested however a potential issue could arise in attempting to retrofit a 99-00 onto an 01.

Was the housing reshaped for 01?

Anyone successfully install a 99-00 onto an 01?

Bob

Bob you have plenty of ways to go about this but the cheapest way would bre to not use any grill insert like me and rich did. It takes some finess work but its just as good and its lighter weight too .

If not then I would go to a junk yard like you said and buy a new grill shell and insert and have it painted to match and then have it installed if your afraid to cut up the stocker. Your not afraid are you? J/K

I think it looked pretty damn good with the stocker cut up and fitted, but thats my opinion and that doesn't really matter now does it? HEHEHEHE

What ever you do, I know you'll do it perfect so I wouldn't be to worrried.

Walker,

I'm interested but your email option is turned off. Please shoot me an email .

Killa,

What sort of tweaking did you have to do to get the upper attached?

Thanks,

Bob

I recently sent the customer service representatives at Street Scene an email and asked them if they were planning on producing an insert for the 2001-2002 model Lightning. They responded back that they are in the works for getting one to the market and should have one out in the February/March time frame. I like the look of their inserts, and want to put one on my '01 L, but I'll probably just hold off until then and save the hassle. Below is what they responded back with.

WE SHOULD HAVE A PRODUCTION PART AVAILABLE SOMETIME IN FEB/MAR 2002. PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR FURTHER UPDATES. THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST IN OUR PRODUCTS.

RTKILLA has the right idea. I know for a fact that his method is better than the one I used, which was cutting out the horizontal and vertical bars forcing the SS grille into the space.

You can't put ten pounds of potatoes into a five pound sack without something bulging out.

I'm going to take mine back apart and install it like KILLA's. It HAS to work better. Believe me, you won't be happy with the method I used.

I posted some pics, do a search of my name.
