Does the quality of work improve when employees know their jobs may be in peril? Or, is the opposite true? Does quality go in the tank when employees are uncertain about their future?

As much of a shot in the dark as it is to buy a quality product under the best of conditions, would you hold off buying one now in light of the recent layoffs?
