Ordered The Boyd Coddington 20's!

Well i just ordered the Boyd Coddington Smoothie rims in 20's. And i got the Dunlop SP 9000's to mount them on size 295/40/20. The rims take 2-3 weeks to make and i cant wait for them at least now i got something to look forward to. I will be selling my Chrome stock rims with tires when i get the 20's on i will make a post in the classifieds when im ready to sell. Heres a pic off Boyd Coddington's website of the Smoothies 20" on an F-150 that has the lightning front bumper and has something like my cervini's cowl hood. So i think they will look good i cant wait.

Dont worry i will post some pics when i get them on. As for where i got them i got them from my local rim guy who got my my stock chrome wheels. Everything was 3180 that was with the rims ,tires ,and mounted and balanced which wasnt bad at all. I had called boyd coddington direct to see what the rims cost and he said 530 a rim but he would do them for 2000 for all 4. Then checked out tire rack for the tries and they would have been like 900 for the tires. So add in the shipping and then me taking them someone to mount and balance them would have been more then going with my rim guy. Also i dont have to worry about a set of rims and tires sitting outside my house until i come home.

Vin,

They look great, I can't wait to see your truck with them on. Sounds like you got a real good deal on them too for buying them local and all.

Vin,

Great choice in the Coddington's, you will be very happy with the quality. One word of advice though. Get some 3M aluminum polish and 100% cotton terry cloth towels. The 3M is by far the best polish, even better than Boyd's own, and the cotton towels will not scratch your rims. Good luck

Vinnie, those wheels look great. I'd like to see some pic's when you have them installed. They are made about 2 blocks from here. The cylinder head shop I use is in the same industrial complex.

Do they make 18's

Thanks for the info. Rob i know that you got a black truck like me and i was wondering what kind of tire dressing you use so that it wont fling off onto the black paint i hate when that happens.

Jay
They do make them in 18's they are just the Smoothie. Im getting the 20's so im getting the Smoothie 2 those are the rims they make in 20's. They are little differen but not much. Heres a pic of each.
Smoothie

Smoothie 2

Thanks i cant wiat for them either. Since you guys are running the larger rims your trucks didnt feel like slugish after you put them on? Im sure nothing that a 4lb PSP Pulley wont solve let me know.
Thanks

Vin,

I use Zaino Tire Gloss. That's the only stuff that doesn't splatter my truck and last a while too. Just so you know my original set of Boyd's took about 6 weeks to be made and shipped if you get yours in half that time you are one lucky dude

Hey BadAzz516,

You will like the 40 series profile. When I sold my 20" 99-00 replica's and got the 01 20's, I put 45 series tires on the new rims. I like the little bit better ride, but I feel like I lost a little power. ( more weight & taller tire). The 40 series ride pretty well also, just a litte harsher.

I don't have any problems burning the tires off with my current Mod's, Just my gear ratio went down. I mostly drive my truck on the street, don't go to the track that much, so I can live with it. With the 4lb PSP Pulley, you will have plenty of power and you'll be happy.

Do you have a 3.73 or 3.55 gear ratio? IF you have the 3.73 gears installed, you will have a final gear ratio of 3.60, which isn't much less than stock. With my 45 series tires on, my final gear ratio is 3.48.

I think you won't notice much of a difference with the 40 series on your truck than the stock 18's.

I use Zaino on my truck and my car, I can't say enough good things about it. The red color on my truck looks deeper and it makes the Pearl White paint glow on my Lexus. I'm a believer in Zaino.

Thanks For the info gonna order some zaino now. Im guessing you use the wax to do you like it? I use the Wet cherry now and its pretty good. As for the rims my rim guy told me they said takes 2 to 3 weeks just to make the rims so we will see hopefully wont be to long of a wait hehe. Thanks again for the info.

Hey Vin,

You shouldn't notice that much of a differnece since you already are used to driving with the 3.55's.

I started to put 4.10's in my truck(which would have gave me a 3.80 ratio on the street). A friend of mine close by, installed 4.10's in his 99 and he runs my similiar mod setup. He said he can hardly get any traction, his tires spin like crazy, so I decided to wait on the gears. I plan on taking my 20's off when I go to the track and run my 18's with the new Nitto Drag radials and keep my stock gear ratio for racing.
