Sad Sunday nite
Sad Sunday nite
My little girl bulldog, Girlie Girl, died last nite quietly and with class, after a month and a half of fighting. We don't really know why. The vet is perplexed. They couldn't pinpoint any real cause for sure. She was 10 years old and such a power house before she got sick. She moved from the bedroom to the living room where everybody was, including inlaws and their little girls. She just watched everyone all night while laying on her blanket. They would pet her occasionally but she just continued to watch. Then after everyone left and everyone went to bed my wife called me. She said Girlie raised her head and looked at her until she went over to where she laid. When I came out she looked at me without raising her head and I put my hand on her head to pet her. Then she just closed her eyes and let out a last breath and died. Melodramatic? Maybe but true. I never had kids and I'm 48. My dogs are my children and I love them more than anything. I still have Big Joe. But he's 11 so I can expect more tragedy in the future.
Thanks in advance for all your condolences. They are needed and very much appreciated. To some they are only dogs but I suspect those are the ones that don't have much respect for any of God's creatures. Who can be more loyal and forgiving. Who can be beaten but come back anytime for your affection? Who waits religiously for the sound of your Lightning as you pull into the driveway? Who goes spastic when you say "let's go for a ride!" And they never complain when you want to get on it.

Man, that's rough...........
I know how you feel..........over the years, we've had to put down our Dalmatian, Judge, our Rhodesian Ridgeback, Suede, and last but in no way least, our pit bull bitch, Dolly(she had a BIG chest) and we miss them to this day. Trying to decide whether to go thru that again...............
Sorry for your loss,
Dan

My condolences to you and your family on losing a close family member... i've been through the same thing as you.
A little story to cheer you up though...
Our family ****er spaniel had to be put down about three years ago and my mom called to see if i wanted to go along or say goodbye. I was stuck at work so i couldn't but i knew that mom wanted the dog cremated. After a long day at work and arriving home @ midnight, i walked into the kitchen and found a black charcoal lump on a plate by the stove. I freaked out and started wondering what kind of family i'd been living with all of these years ...to be able to cremate our dog and put it on display. Everyone was fast asleep so i went to bed and decided to confront them the next morning.
At the breakfast table, i broke the silence by asking mom to put the dog somewhere other than the kitchen counter. My dad started howling with laughter and then managed to blurt out "That's not the dog ....that's the steak your brother left on the BBQ last night".
Nothing but good memories with that dog....as you had with yours as well...

I know too what is like to lose an animal loved one.... My and my girlfriend breed and raise domestic rats.... It so hard to lose one to sickness after months of fighting.... The to lose one that it's life had only just begun is also just as said... We bury each one, on a hill by my house. I feel for anyone that has a pet/friend.
DR.D......Sorry to hear about your loss. Everytime someone looses someone (or something) close to them it hurts. Hope you feel better soon.
Hey IC........read a little closer......he said he never had children. Just clearifying........no flame intended.
PS........I'll bet that new 6#'er rocks
I am debating it myself...but I don't want to overwork the blower on a regular basis.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Most all of us have been through it at one point.I lost my last pet (a dog also) back in 1983 after having her for almost 16 years. Haven't had another pet since. Maybe someday I still don't know.
Sorry about your loss. My wife and I always seem to take in strays. There is just some thing special about doing this. We just just had to put down one of our cats. I am a pretty tough guy with big shoulders. I cried for hours. I know how you feel. So if it makes you feel better just cry or vent. Bob.
My girlfriend lost her dog, muffin, last night too. She wanted me to come over to see muffin, but I just counldnt do it (her whole family was there crying). Muffin died of old age. After they said their goodbyes, I waited at her house for her. Gave her a big hug and im sorry. All dogs go to heaven....they are more loyal than humans. I then said "you know muffin is gonna go up there, hump all the dogs and be happy again!" We shared a laugh and a few drinks (to get the edge off). Cherish the memories and share the pictures....their spirit lives on.
Dr. D...sorry bout your pup. Hope you feel better.

Don, I hear where you're coming from. We have a bulldog also, he'll be 5 in Feb. With our new baby on the way, I've started to think of how she'll take it when Winston's time is up. He's always been our baby too, all 85 pounds of him. Bulldogs do meake great security systems whne they're in the truck. Even if he's snoring in the passenger seat.

Sorry to hear about the loss of a loved one. I'm just 30 and on my first set of real pets that are truly mine. I have 2 labs Travis and Candi and they just turned 2 this year. I hope I dont have to go thru that with my dogs for a long time, don't know what I would do if I lost them anytime soon. I'm just getting over the recent loss of my grandparents. If I know them they are driving a Lightning right now up in heaven they loved my truck so much. It was funny to watch people when they pulled up next to my grandmother driving it, it was they couldnt believe there eyes when she just took off and left them behind. So I will throw in a couple little hints next time I pray to them to give Girlie Girl a ride in the Lightning!!! I will tell them to get on it real good because you know in heaven they can do 8 sec and better 1/4 mile times and top over 200 mph!!! (or even faster) its heaven everything is perfect there!!!
Well good luck!!

Thanks so much
I can't thank you guys enough. You are all great people to show such compassion. If I could afford to I'd treat you all to a good dinner. I can't wait to meet some of you. Thank you for your understanding. God bless all of you. May your Lightnings all run 11s and never break. Thanks for knowing that it really is an important thing to some people. Maybe we're just more sensitive.
And as a follow up-she didn't let out a whimper through it all. She never whined, cried or struggled no matter what we were doing or having done-needles, carrying her around, thermometers up her behind--never complained or fought once. She was a true saint. Bless her big, wonderful heart and give her all the tennis ***** and rawhides she wants in heaven. I miss her. Now it is really beginning to sink in that she's gone.
