I know that this is a dumb question.
I know that this is a dumb question.
Well I guess what the dumb question is that I want to goto one of the quarter mile tracks. But I don't know what to do. What do I need to bring? What do I need to wear? How much does it usually run to do a couple runs? And finally what time should I get there? Sorry for the Questions but I want to try it and to see what my truck can do. Thanks for the info and be easy on me.

Bring a helmet get there a a 1/2 hour before the track opens.
My track charges $15.00 for test and tune nights.
Air down the rear tires to 27 psi
Leave the line from idle, and ease into the gass pedal.
Go park by the other Lightnings, they will tell you what to do.

yeah, bring a helmet.. (if you have one) wear long pants and closed toe shoes. (no shorts and sandals)
try to run with less than half a tank if you can.. 1/8-1/4 tank would be best. (my track is a long way away, so i have to have a bit to get back home. lol)
ask questions if you need help understanding anything at the track.. there should be plenty of people there that will take the time to explain everything.
do a short burnout (scuff the tires a bit to get the dirt off of them)
and roll up to the "christmas tree"
pull up till the top set of 2 bulbs light up. (called pre-stage)
wait for your opponant to light his first set up. (this is called courtsey staging.. some tracks enforce it)
after both of you have the first set lit, inch forward untill your second set of 2 lights is on. (called staged)
after a couple of seconds, the yellow lights will start coming on.
you want to leave on the last yellow light before the green.
if you see a red light, it means you left too soon.

Leave your gear selector in drive, let the computer do the shifting, it's better at it. Stay in the throttle until you pass the traps(finish line), usually has two big signs there. There are usually a couple of turn-offs, DON'T cut in front of your opponent, allow him to exit first if it is on his side of the track. Drive back up the service road and get your timeslip.
You got excelent advise here.. but also ask the locals
at your drag strip.. They are usually extremely go at helping ...
Drag people are not like show people, most of them think they have the greatest car on earth and they look down on you.

Hey Wheeler, you're not too far from me at all, some of the L guys from the F150world.com forum at going to Carlsbad Raceway the 19th of this month. I'll be going as well. If you can, try and come on down. It'll be fun.
The advice given is right on... Also like to add, bring sunscreen (if you burn easy, you'll be under that sun just cooking. Also, a ice-chest is a good idea, fill it with bags of ice (big enough to put on your intake, and/or s/c). Also, throw in some food for yourself, and some drinks, water, gatorade, etc. as food at the tracks can be expensive.

wheeler, there is a tech inspection before you race. some tracks give you a sticker which is marked when you race. The inspector will tell you to put it in the middle of your windshield so it can be marked whether you're in the right lane or left lane. On a truck, it can't be marked from either side so, just put it on the left (unless you know you'll always be using the left lane). I put mine in the middle as I was told the first time I went and the guy doing the marking had to crawl all over my truck.
The only thing you need on this site that you don't need at the track is a flame retardant suit.
(and you'd be shocked if you knew how many people post in this Forum with a helmet on)
