Spun a main in my L

Well, I have had my L for about a month and a half and have already spun a main bearing in it. I took it back to the dealer and they are replacing the engine. Engine will be in monday ,14th. I only have 17,000 on the truck (2000). Has anyone heard of this happening before. Just kinda worried about what will happend to my truck next. Sorry to say but there is not even the first mod to my truck ( not even a K&N ). Any feedback please.............

Thanks

Must have just been a fluke... I have only heard of a spun bearing on the L's a couple of times. I am surprised that it doesn't happen more often as hard as some of us push these motors!

FreeStyler47,

Did you happen to do alot of stressful burnouts? This can cause a bearing to spin. Or have you really hit the rev limiter alot?

Or...do you just start the truck cold and run it hard before it warms up?

Spun Bearing

Hate ask a dumb question, but what indications did you have to lead you to the conclussion that the engine had spun a bearing?

Motor gets tight then locks up if driven at all. Common indication there is a spun main bearing.

Since your truck is a 2000, and you only had it for 1 1/2 months, I would wonder if the previous owner did some of the things that the other guys suggested. Did it have the original tires on it when you bought it?

One thing that boggles me is how did you achieve 17,000 miles in a month and half....

I'm assuming you bought the truck used with warranty. Who knows what the previous owner did. Well at least the dealer is taking care of it for you.

what ever happend it wasn't me

well,

I did by the truck used and it had 14,000 miles. I have done very little racing on it and I have done no burnouts. But, I did max it out and took it to 140 once on the interstate. But that still should not have happend cause I did not stay there but a couple secs. I do let my truck warn up before I do anykind of hot roding on it. I am not really sure if it actually spun a man but it does have a ticking sound to it. It might be rod knocking but I am not sure. I just took it to the dealer and they said the engine was going to have to be replaced. I did not argue. I really didn't try to figure out what was wrong, I was really to upset. I am going to talk to the mechanic and see what he thinks. The dealer only has one mech. who can even touch a SVT. I am kinda scared to even do any mods now. Do you guys have any suggestions on the easiest mods that i can remove if need be. thanks for the input guys

I'm probably more conservative then most members on this board, but if I was you I wouldn't do ANY mods until you have had the truck a few months and got some miles on it. You want to wait to see if this L is going to give you more problems. If you have to keep taking it back to the dealer, you don't want any mods that could give them an excuse to void the warranty. You could put an air filter on, but that doesn't increase the performance much without a chip. (It does make the supercharger whine more though). If you put a chip on, the dealer has certain ways to tell, even if you take it off before you drop the truck off. I'd just be patient as see if you have any more problems. Tom
