seems to happen whenever you hit too many bumps,,, which is all the time here in detroit crappy road area,, but i think thats pretty much normal, they do seem to be a very sensative abs system.

yhea, If you are hitting a lotta bumps it'll do that.

If you can't brake just release the pedal some and come back down. I think it'll kill the abs.

I have read in similar previous posts that the ABS symptoms you describe may be the result of a bad shock absorber(s).

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can you explain the rachet effect for me? Just because my brake pedal sometimes just slide all the way in sort of like if it slipped in and there is no braking????Now pad and rotors in the front were replaced about 3K miles ago and the back were serviced so. I dont know.

SVT Bob - Are you going straight or are you coming up of a curve when you brake? I've noticed that the ABS goes off sooner (lower speeds) when I'm brakeing with the steering wheel turned in either direction. It's happened since I got my L and I've never given in a second thought.

Black 2000L - I think the rachet effect is what the brake pedal feels like when the ABS engages. It's kinda like some one took an impact hammer, attached the business end to the brake pedal, and turned it on. I once had a van with the same problem - the pedal would go all the way to the floor sometimes and when I was at a stop light, sometimes the brakes would even release a little. I even had to pump the brakes to get them to work sometimes and ended up changing out the master cylinder to fix it.

aus6321, The truck seems to do it on flat dry pavement going straight. Netx time I go out in the truck I will try it when I go in to a turn to see if it is any worse. Thanks Bob.

SVT Bob, My L is a 2001 and it does the same thing. I had it at the dealer last week and the tech thought that there was a bad sensor and the ABS computer was getting a flase lock up signal. He hooked up some computer to the truck and went for a drive but the results came back positive (meaning no fault found). He felt the vibration in the pedal so he said I would have to bring the truck back and they would have to do a more thorough investigation. I am also getting a new driveshaft because the tech felt that it was producing a driveline vibration.
