Locking gas cap!

For those who have this, how did you get the plastic retainer off to make the switch? Thanks.

Hi baddgene,
That plastic lanyard can be removed easily. The only thing holding it onto the truck is a rubber grommet that can be wiggled out.

It doesn't come off(if I understand your question). Just fold/pull the end out of the hole in the body. Reinsert the new 'end' into that hloe--if I remember correctly?

I apologize for not being more clear. I would like to keep the plastic retainer for fear of leaving the cap at the pump one day. Just want to know how to get the cap out of the retainer to out the new one in. That plastic is kind of hard and didn't seem to want to come over the lip of the cap. Thanks again.

The retainer I'm talking about holds the cap onto the vehicle. The cap has basically a lower and upper part. The retainer is between the two, and allows the two parts to turn independantly. I bought the cap used, so it may be that it was removed. I guess I could just go without it, but I like the peace of mind. Anyone familiar with an army canteen, knows what the retainer looks like. Anyway, thanks for the responses, I'll try one more time.

the lanyard should pull right off your old cap.. mine did.
i left mine off so it wouldn't rub the side of my truck when i took it off to fill up.
just pull down where the lanyard meets the loop and work your way around the rim.. it should come off.

hope this helps,
brooks
