What pulley choice?
What pulley choice?
It looks like i may finally be able to get my chip and pulley. I am considering a 5#, F/T vlv body, of course the chip. Is this 5# too much for a daily driver? I plan on racing but not every single weekend.I don't drive it too hard normally. I understand the deal of decreasing engine life with mods relationship but a lot if not most of you senior members have already been down this road, maybe several times. My goal for now is to get this boy to do 12.1 to 12.5 for now. It has done 13.3 stock.
I just put the JDM 4# on last night, and I almost wrecked my Lightning while taking it for a test drive. I pulled out onto a major street, traffic was coming, I gave it moderate gas and it went sideways. Person in the next lane slowed to avoid me. Looked in the rear view mirror only to see a large cloud of smoke pouring out. Went to the gas station, some kids were checking out my ride so when I pulled out, I got on it (not to the floor). Broke the tires loose, started fishtailing, watching the rearview mirrors saw 2 dark black tracks with smoke just pouring out of the rear wells. Completely spun entirely through 1st, entirely through 2nd and started wheel hop once it hit 3rd. After my experience with this 4# pulley last night, I think anything greater than 4#'s is insane!!!!!! But, there are the few, the proud, the 5 and 6 pounders out there.
I have not measured the fuel mileage yet, but after clocking over 100 miles round trip to my track, the gauge moves WAY FASTER than it used to.
I'm thinking if it is daily driver, 2 or 3# might be the ticket. But, I have not driven one with a 2 or 3 to be able to make an educated opinion. I was debating between the 2 and 4 and of course had to go with the 4, but whichever I was gonna choose, I wanted to retain the stock cage.
Just my .02

Don, Peter, Dan all have it right. 4 to 5 of added boost would be fine for a daily driver. If you drive alot of miles and like to play alot I may go with the 4. Either way your going to Fly. I had a 3 on for 9000 miles and had no problems. I just went to a 6lb lower, but my truck is not a daily driver. The 3 was decent, I got down to a 12.50 with it. If you want more than that I would step up to a 4 or 5. Just make sure you have a good chip with a good program for your area of the country. You dont want to Ping!! It wouldnt hurt to consider some plugs as well.....

Hey Flash- How did you get the extra cage? Or is that someone else's stock pulley?
I am consdering getting the JDM 4# because of the cage, but the cost is damn prohibitive, especially since I don't want to dismantle the stock pulley. (That means buying a new/used cage assembly somewhere.)

Hey
I put the JL #4 on mine and ran my 12.33 @110mph times and it is perfectly streetable. I drove 130 mile to the track and drove it home and and its great. I just switch to the #6 just to keep those guys off my shoes.
