I have heard from a lot of people that changing the exhaust and/or muffler on the L will not increase the power. As a matter of fact, you might even lose a little torque

I just installed a Magnaflow 14468 on mine yesterday and I definitely did not gain anything except for sound. I am still trying to figure out if I lost anything!

Maybe someone else here has more info on this subject. . .

Most cat backs are rated at 10-15hp.... Some have got it on the Dyno, some have not!! You can really pick up HP by installing Long Tube headers/High Flow Cats/ Cat Back....

All this assuming added boost (pullies, open air box, etc.), right? Will stock trucks with full exhaust, or catback only provide any significant gains?

Most of the Cat Back rating's are on stock trucks. Thats usually the only thing a company will do to try to see what thier prooduct does. As far as real life gains. I dont think anyone with a Stock truck has gained much from a cat back system. Most on here have gained once they get into the 3+ boost range. Same old theory, what goes in must come out!!

will adding long tubes on a 2001 L hurt performance by robbing power, with the stock intake setup

I put the LT on my truck back in April. At the time I only had a chip and filter. Max RWHP increase was 12; Peak RWHP was 7.

Were you running a pulley at the time?

Do you mean 12/7 extra RWHP with the long tubes over what you had already gained with chip & filter, or do you mean 12 TOTAL RWHP OVER STOCK with long tubes, chip, and filter....kinda confused there.

thanks,
JC
