Sal, I would have ordered the plugs from you as you have been very helpful and that is a great price. Unfortunately I need the plugs TONIGHT and had to buy them locally for $3 a pop. I decided to try the TR6 for now, and will leave it at the default .044 gap. We'll see how that works out.

Thanks again everyone for you advice - I will post tonight or tomorrow after running the new plugs to tell you if they fixed my rough idle.
Ben: If you mean by 'default' that they come gapped at .044--probably not true. I never put a plug in without verifying the correct gap. If I'm 'preachin' to the choir', forgive me.

Dan

Don't worry LIGHTNINROD... I'm not going to waste all that time changing the plugs without checking each gap. I'm so paranoid right now that I was going to buy 9 plugs in case I accidentally dropped one or didn't like the threads, etc.

But thank you for making sure I didn't forget.

Thank you FLASHSVT too. I meant to edit my post to add you but seems like the forum won't let me edit any posts right now...

Wow, $3.00 each? The most I ever paid was $1.59 though they do need to be ordered. Usually takes 1 day to come in. Shop around next time before you need them, most all auto part stores can get them. NGK's stock #4177

NXCobra, believe me, I did shop around! Everyone else claimed 3-5 days and if I could wait that long I would have ordered from Sal. I had to do the plugs tonight and only one place had them (and hey had 8 too, thank god).

Anyway, here's my latest update:

Changed the plugs and while things seem a little smoother, the L still vibrates badly at idle. The dealer ordered a new MAF because my tech thinks it's still running a little rich. We looked at the old plugs and they smelled like fuel so they think this may fix it. I won't know until tomorrow night.

**********ABSOLUTELY NO FLAME TO YOU**************
You can continue to change parts until you find the defective one, but dosen't your tech or dealership have diagnostic tools? They can hook a scanner and see the A/F ratio.
You may want to look at going to a different dealership.
Good luck, either way.

Yeah BMW, I think Ferrari has a good point. Dont let them just tinker with your baby. I mean im sre its not costing you anything but you dont want your truck to have alot of downtime & tinkering do you??

No, I agree with you guys completely... I'm very tired of driving this Ford Contour loaner. At 20K miles, this little thing has already been run ragged by other SVT owners.

Their diagnostic computer indicates that it's running rich and they claim they are "confident" that it's the MAF. If that's not it, I am definitely going to bring it to the other dealer that said they'd be happy to work on it. I can't take much more of this...

Can't edit my posts, but wanted to add:

Does anyone else thing my Lightning seems to experience unsusual part failures? I thought the one injector was bad luck, but how often do MAF's go bad? Of course, the jury is still out on that one - could still be something else entirely. Wish it was something easy like unplugging battery and reseting the computers....

I'm putting on BR7EF's fpr racing tomorrow. Going to try a 100 octane tune-up, so I thought I'd be on the safe side.
