AggieSVT: I just changed my oil a couple of days ago. I added 6 qts. and mine was reading in the middle of the safe, too. I recall an article I read a while back (I think it was 5.0 mag) that said you can actually gain power by running your oil level slightly above the ADD indicator (as low as possible) because your crank does not have as much oil to get through. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but since then I have refrained from topping my oil level off all the way to the FULL mark!

01LIGHTNING, I have heard the same thing from people who build engines. These guys usually us a windage (sp) tray to help keep the crank from having to splash through the oil and gain some small amount of power. Obviously, it all depends on the location (or really length) of the dipstick, etc. to get an exact idea on the oil level, but I just wanted to make sure this is normal. I read the supplemental SVT manual and it said 6 quarts so that is what I added. On my 2000 4X4, I NEVER checked the oil myself. I always had it done every 3K and never really knew what it read. I honestly do not ever remember looking at the dipstick on that truck. This truck however is different as all of us here in the forum know. We all like to watch these L's very closely!!!
T-handle on my 01, February build. Also reads in the middle of safe zone after 6 qt. oil change, about 1 qt. down from the top so you have to remind the techs. to put in only 6 qts. and not fill it up.---Jim
