Just out of curiousity, are you running the stock spark plugs? Did you have the chip reburned for the 5 lb. pulley? Have you heard it knocking or pinging prior to this? Does it constantly knock or just at certain RPM ranges?

How's the weather down there in Miami? When it got "cold" here in Houston my truck started pinging. When it gets warmer, it stops.

Same as Madhouse. I buy the "Penzoil Outlaw" MMT based octane booster kit (four bottles for $10, at Autozone) for those cold days, and I save my bottles to add an additional 3.5 oz of Turner Lab's octane booster as well (nitrobenzene) for those super-cold dry days. Detonation will be more prominant on, cold, dry days for chipped vehicles with increased air flow and esp. a pulley.

Also consider a 160F stat (Autozone - order a Hypertech 1011) $22.00 this will lower the engine temp, and increase your A/F ratio (richer)

I would pull the plugs and check them to see if you've burnt the end off one or more of them. While you'got them out you might as well change them. I don't know what you are running now but if your running the stock plugs get rid of them and get you a colder plug. The plat. plug also holds heat worse than others. With a 5# pulley I would suggest to go with a NGK TR5 or the BR7EF. The Hypertech Thermostat is a good idea also like MOP has suggested. Let us know what you find, with a little more info I'm sure someone here can help.

MIAMI??? Fat chance!

But try two places.......Maroone Ford in Ft. Lauderdale, or Maroone Ford in Coral Springs........you shouldn't have any problems at either one.

If you go to Ft. Laud. talk to ****; he's the shop foreman. I don't remember the name of the guy in Coral Springs, but he's one of the Service Managers, and if I'm not mistaken, he has an L himself.

Hope that helps,
JC

you should change the plugs. stock plugs dont work well with the extra boost of the pulley. ask anyone on here. they should be changed

SS,

What's the old adage about "Step over a dollar to pick up a dime..." Now's certainly not the time to cheap out and hope for warmer weather unless you don't plan on driving your truck until then. I highly suggest you pony up and spend the $15.00 on some NGK's at least...you can buy Densos later if you want to go that route. Those nice sticky 555R's aren't going to do you any good when your truck is sitting in your garage because you lunched a motor when the stock spark plug electrodes broke off and started "floating" around your combustion chambers.

SS,

You should be able to hunt down NGK's at any Car Quest or NAPA or, if that doesn't work, try any import auto parts store.

I changed my filter the other day at 23000 and it had a noticable amout of crap in it. I put the hypertech 160 degree thermostst in yesterday and it feels better Off idle. Remember the 99's had a problem with a crimp fitting on the in tank pump. It would blow off..sometimes all the way..sometimes partialy. Mine did. The truck would idle along just fine..guess vacuum drew enough for that. I suspect backpressure from plugging filters may have accelerated this problem.
