to to lean and stock

Fuel pump, Does our L's have one or two pumps? I went to the Dyno with a friends L and we are having a serious problem here. The truck runs fine, feels fine and etc, When we ran it up guess what the chart showed we leaned out to a 17 @ 4800 rpm's. This is with stock programing and filter, we put a chip in and went to an unheard of rich setting and made another run. Now we're lean to a 16.8 so really no change. First thing that came to mind was the fuel filter, when we removed the filter there was absolutly no pressure on it at all. HHMMMM This ant good. The pump is not holding pressure and we arn't getting enough gas to run at WOT safely. Its got to be a pump or hose problem. Anyway if this happens to you and your not on the Dyno to see it Guess what POW! Just wanted to pass it along to you guys.

If you search you'll see that the 99's had a problem with a crimped clamp on the discharge side of the in tank pump. I had this problem. The hose blew off..The truck would idle along just fine...give it some throttle and it wanted ..would die. I just changed my filter today with 23000 miles and it had a fair amount of crap in it. Where is the dyno you use. I would like to ruin mine on it?

The weather looks bad for Sunday....

What kind of device are you using to measure air fuel ratio? I really don't think the truck is really putting out those numbers, or else you'd have some serious detonation and it would run like total crap.

Quick edit here, I missed the part about it not holding pressure when I read it the first time.

How are you measuring fuel pressure? Is it not holding pressure if you cycle the key, then let it sit? Or is the fuel pressure dropping when under load? If it's dropping under load, it might be the in tank clamps like Twisted suggested. If you have to drop the tank, might be some good insurance to get one of our PSP fuel pump kits. It comes with new hoses and clamps in the kit.

Two Pumps w/ notorious line failures! The lines have been known to pop off,Might as well get PSP's Dual 255's & install them if you are going to check the lines.

Twisted the dyno is in Mobile@ Professional Engine & Dyno Service call and talk to Pete 251-476-4445.
We had all the normal Dyno probes connected and our computer for the chip burn. We didn't believe it either but we also had my L there and it is fine so that tells us the eqipment was working. We're going into the tank this week and find the problem, I'll let you guys no. We really didn't give it a real chance for detonation, never got out of 2nd gear and and the boost was near 9 to 10#s. I no we were close to the end.

it was a bad fuel pump

We got my friends fuel pump replaced under warranty this past Friday and went back to the Dyno tonight. The truck felt much stronger just driving around town so we were ready to see what it had. We already have the JL 4# pulley and shift kit installed and Johnson Motor Sports rep. was with us to program the chip. The fuel to air ratio looked much better with two fuel pumps. With the chip complete we came out with 405 HP at the wheels and just over 500 lb ft of torque. I was very pleased with this. Anyone in the South Al area thats interested in the mods. let me know and I'll put you in contact with the right people.

Special Thanks goes out to JLP for all the great products on my truck and the Silver L owned by Russ, and to Chris Johnson at Johnson Motor Sports www.jmschip.com in Mobile for all the good work done on the chip, and to Pete at Professional Engines & Dyno Service in Mobile for the Equipment that made this possible.

Guys sorry I blew off the steam on yall. I'm working 12 hour night shifts and it kinda sucks. I just felt kinda unwanted when I didn't even get a response. Yea Russ own's this Silver L and its making some great power. We burned the chip at the Dyno just for his mod's. Chris Johnson is awesome. He can almost do magic.
About the fuel pumps now I just want you all to realize how bad it would be if you lose a pump and then go race. We never even thought we had a fuel problem with the truck while on the road. We had just returned from a 175 mile trip pulling a car to and fro a track to race, its a good thing we didn't race the L because we may have blown the motor when it leaned out. A fuel pressure gauge may be one of the best mod's we can all make.
Again sorry for the vent. Catch you later.

Was that the Guy from Irvington that had the yellow stang on the trailer over at Emerald Coast ? Nice guy. Made some appreciated comments about my truck. I spoke with the owner..I think and not Pete. He stated he really let another guy ,Pete I guess run the Dyno. I'm planning on gettting a few pulls in Friday. Will schedule with him tomorrow. I recall the way you had your stock airlid setup and read a post tonight about the stock box vs. a conical. He indicated gains with the stock box over the latter.
You off Friday ?

Hoping to catch up to you guys in the 400 HP 500 # club.
