Auburn Posi?

I am rebuilding my rear end with the Auburn Posi unit. I know they are a heck of alot stronger than the stock but they claim quicker response and much better traction. Has anyone tried this unit yet? Any feed back for it. I am having it installed with 4.10 gears so I may not be able to tell how much I benefit if it do at all. What is you guy's feed back on this unit?

It's an excellent unit. Although I do not have this posi unit in the L , I did install the Auburn in my previous vehicle, a 1995 Formula.
It made a huge difference and I was very pleased with it. had the 4:10 gears. Pretty much indestructable.
I say go for it.

I have heard many good things about the Auburn...

That's why I used it in my Cobra. The only problem with the Auburn for regular track use is that it is a wedge cone design that it metal to metal. If, when doing a burnout, one wheel decides to get grab before the other one it will burn up the Auburn in no time. Once this happens, you can't rebuild it. That's what happened to mine.

I ended up going with a FRPP with a clutch pack and it worked fine. I figured if I burned up the clutches, at least I could rebuild it.

I never had any trouble with traction until it burned up and wasn't posi anymore. Maybe mine was an isolated incident, but I had a few differential guys warn me about the Auburn before I bought it because it couldn't be rebuilt.

I put in an eaton diff in my mustang a few months ago and I love it. I was going to go with the auburn but I found out about it being non rebuildable. The eaton has carbon fiber clutch packs. I belive it was cheaper than the auburn.

What can you tell me about the Eaton diff?

I am thinking of upgrading my differential this spring, I am looking to find the strongest unit out there.

To me it seems a bit like a trac loc but it seems to plant the torque better, and I really like the the carbon fiber clutch packs. With my old trac loc I was smoking the clutches with my spirited driving. These carbon fiber ones arent showing any signs of giving up yet. heres a link to the eaton diff http://www.traction.eaton.com/prod3.htm
The odd thing is I read somewhere that lightnings came stock with eaton diffs. Ill do some looking to see if its true.

jezze269, the lightnings do not come with the eaton but i was pitched the idea by a tuner to try the eaton when available[this was last year] I was wondering if you had any idea on the cost.

I don't think the Auburn for the L is a wedge cone type. I could be wrong but I think it is a friction plate variation. P/N AUB542090

Ill try to find some prices. I got mine along with superior axles, and bearing from drivetrain direct to my door for $560.00. It was a pretty good deal I think.
