Question i want to learn

does anyone know where i can get info about engines and how they work. this sounds like a stupid question but im a but i want to learn as much as possible about engines, transmitions, gearing, manifolds, just about everything. if anybody know where i can get info like books, internet even a good school that teaches this let me know. i figure that knowledge is power and the more i know the faster i can make my lightning go. thanks this will be a big help.

Wow dude, that is a major under takeing. It has taken me two years to learn as much as I do about these trucks, let alone everything else I know about cars. I would try to search on how engines work first, and learn the general concept behind them. Your going to have to spend many many hours think on how things work and the way they do.

i think its a great idea learning how the things that you want to improve work. i take stuff apart at home and see if i can make it stronger, faster, better, whatever! computers, engines, pretty much anything electronic, etc..
heres a link that might help you out:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/sc-engines-automotive.htm
this is a very good site. very descriptive, lots of pictures. it has everything! auto trans, manual trans, bearings, clutches, differentials, gears, torque converters, etc...

hope this helps

edit:
heres a better link

Dude, theres this great program for the computer called WinAuto. if you search the web you can find a free trial version. We use it at school in our Technology for the Manager class. it will point at what everything is, tells you what it is, what it does. And for some systems/parts of the system it will put everything into motion and you can control the speed (not available in demo). it even has little mult choice quizes asking you whats what. how Stuff works is pretty good too. That WinAuto prog doesnt go extremely in depth, but it gives a great understanding of how it all goes together...might be a good thing to do first, then you can find something else to dig in deeper if you dare.
