Serious ?? 4 or 6lb lower?

Im having trouble making up my mind on which size pulley to go with, so here is what I have, and what Im thinking about:

Red 2k1 L
only mod: JDM air filter kit
miles: 4,400
daily driver, about 16miles a day

thoughts:
4 or 6lb pulley
throttle body
possibly a valvebody and springs
rancho stabilizer bars

My goal: to make a completely streetable, and daily driver capable of being full weight with me, my stereo, my wife and running 12's reliably.

If you have an idea for me, post it, and if you have a recomendation please post.

forgot this part: most likely a psp chip, multiprogram flip.

Well for what you want, the 6Lb pulley would be the way togo. A shift kit would also be a good idea to keep your transmission alive for a long time. You will also need a chip, and tell the tuner what mods you have. If you want traction bars, go with the Truck Tracs.

THe only problem I have is long term wear on the motor from such high boost. The big boost pulleys have been out a while, but not long enough to see what happens in the long run.

I would go with a 4lb lower pulley and then a interchangable upper pulley for racing purposes. That way you can flip the switch swap out a pulley (which takes 5 minutes) and run with about 6pounds of boost.

Get atleast a flip chip, a PSP 4way chip is allot nicer just to have the extra programming ability.

And I would definetly do the shift kit for the reason that allot of people are going through trannies lately and this a cheap mod from PSP that will help increase the life of the trans, and save you some money in the long run. Chit i've gone through two trannies now!

I wouldn't worry to much about the throttle body until you get more mods on your truck, its really not going to make that much more HP. An electric fan and water pump would do more for you!

Traction bars? I don't think you need them unless your running some slicks and some good times. I would rather see you get a set of slicks for the track.

If you depend on your L daily for transportation, I would not put anything larger than a 4#, maybe even just a 3#!! You have to think about those hot summer days sitting in traffic while the blower is building lots of heat itself into the motor. Sure, your not under boost until you put your foot in it, but those bearings are turning faster continually with the larger pulley installed. Long term reliability will suffer with the higher boost levels. On the other hand, if you added some type of better cooling upgrades, it would help keep those temps. down and help prolong engine life.
My L is not a daily driver for me(maybe twice a month it gets out of the garage),so Im running a little higher boost than I would if I depended on it as a daily driver. This is just my opinion and your gonna get different answers from members here. Take all the info. we give you and decide for yourself what YOU feel is the best route to take for your L. Oh yea, You MUST have a chip installed for ANY pulley you install!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps!

Chip, filter, and lower pulley (3lb) will give you 12's all day long, any day of the year. Plus the fact it's has a little less wear than the bigger pulleys over the long haul. If you only plan on keeping it a couple of years, get the 6lb. If you plan on keeping it for quite awhile like me, stick with the 3lb or less.

you should go with the #6 lower IMHO

or you could do like me and do the #6 lower AND the #1.5 upper

later,
chris

What CC said(seriously, #3s got us both in the 12s and mine's a daily driver)----he has also said many times(well, at least once) that he's proud to be the "quickest with the least!"---wait, I got that mixed up---it was his g/f that said that over in the LightningLovers chat room.

Maybe I should change that to faster than most with more weight behind it.

LOL love to hear the GA boys bash each other

Seriously though I'm with them, I have a 3# pulley and it's a great compromise for daily driving. I plan on keeping mine for a few more years so I wanted reliability with the stock internals.

If it was me three or four pounds maximum. The factory rods pretty much suck and you could get some weak rods from the factory. A broken rod will make a very nasty mess of your motor.

My thoughts:
Chip
Tranny upgrade
Racing slicks
Shock upgrade
(Save money and pass on the pulley)

I got deep in the 12's with Chip,Filter,Ram Air, 3lb pulley. I went 12.50 @109. I averaged 12.70's all day. I wouldnt do anymore than 4lb total on a daily driven truck!!

I would go with the JDM 4# pulley, I like the idea of keeping the factory cage.

I can run 12.5-12.6 all day with my setup, and if conditions are right 12.4's.

I have a JDM
Chip, filter, 2# lower pulley, 1# upper pulley, electric fan, breather, throttle body, line mod, and traction bars. All this is done with my stock tires.

So with a good chip, filter, 4 # pulley, electric fan, and throttle body, and line mod you should be running mid 12's.

Same here I'm running a chip,JL ram air stage 3 without the scoop for now and a 4#pulley and Its a trick trying to keep the tires from spinning . Mine is a daily driver and if its my week to drive its 50 miles a day,she runs just fine setup this way(I did put on magnapacks over christmas so she "sounds" even faster)
