Yep... That's it!

I'm realizing that I love PhotoShop.

No offense or flame, but go buy that turbo, exhaust, and suspension upgrade for the WRX that subaru sells. Then having something major go wrong and see if they give you a run-around. Hands down Ford is worse, but Subaru will give a hard time to. Me and my friend looked into WRX upgrades when he was considering to buy that car, and even though they are sold through Subaru they are still warrenty voiders and say so in their descriptions.

Down's Ford in Tom's River NJ sells performance parts for Ford's, and would they void someones warrenty for one of those parts, probably.

And another thing, don't take everything you read here as 100% truth. Noone here is stupid, we know Ford reads these boards and see what were doing, so some people don't list all their mods. If someones warrenty was voided b/c of a panel filter, well maybe that was the only mod @ the time it was brought in? You can pull a chip, breather cap and swap back to stock airbox within 10 minutes.

With all that said, sell the wife's Highlander, give her the WRX and buy the Lightning for you. The L can haul stuff and satisfy you need for speed, and you're not gonna beat the WRX for rainy/snow/ice days. Have the best of both worlds
Yesterday was about a close as we get to ice down here - around 50 and raining. There are mods you can do to the WRX that will keep you out of trouble. Swapping the turbo doesn't take long anyway in case something comes up. The key is that Subaru will not void your warranty on your motor b/c you had a set of eibach springs. And the dealers that sell aftermarket parts take the liberty to point out that only the manufacturer can void the warranty, not the dealer. So, you read between the lines there and pick the appropriate dealer for service. Nit picking is just the sort of thing I have seen around here. I must admit I have not had a heart to heart with the dealer about how they treat the Lightnings.

I suspect there is more to the story with many of these issues from Lightning owners as well; although, I definitely do not doubt that Ford has screwed a lot of people over. After all, my '92 was under warranty back in the day - but not for very long.

The thing is, the stang satisfies my need for speed. It runs 123mph on radials on the motor...

I think I am going to try and zero in on a used L that checks out ok with a leak down test... that I can mod without feeling guilty. If the tranny breaks I'll use some of the thousands I saved to put a good one in it.

Thanks for the input guys. You all seem like you still have most of your teeth. And coming from a guy with a mustang, that is saying something.

Jim- one of things is you have to remember is as sucky as it sounds Ford did cut some corners on the Lightning. We have the longest rods in our blocks and they're not strong enough, so thats asking for trouble. These engines make obscene power. It is very easy with chip to blow an engine and screw up a tranny. And most people don't believe in 'you gotta pay to play' and run whining back to there car company about problems. What this does is make dealership uneasy and quick to void the whole vehicles warrenty, which is not right at all. There have been a decent amount problems with the Lightning, and since they're a limited production it makes the % of problems to no problems rise. Another reason dealerships go void happy.

Most dealerships and reps are not educated enough on consumer rights and mods to vehicles. Again most people are not educated enough that if you mod (not minor modding) a vehicle then abuse it and expect the warrenty to be honored?

I'm not saying that Subaru is as bad as Ford with the lightnings, but if you blow your engine and have a different ECU and larger turbo on your WRX, Subaru will question and probably give you a hard time. But since I rarely hear of WRX blowing up, you may get over much easier.
