Winter Beater

Well, In light of the threat of snow, I have bought my winter vehicle: a 2001 Eddie Bauer 4wd Expedition. Sorry no pics but I think we all know what they look like. Now it's time to park the L until march.

Your winter BEATER is nicer than most peoples best car.

It is sure a rough life some of us live.

Enjoy the new Expy

my winter car is my old summer car, a 1996 V-6 Firebird. No good in the snow, but that is still better than the L!!

Thumbs up

about every ten years or so, we in the New Orleans area, get a visit from that " white death from the sky". well last night it happened. i awoke to about 1/4" of this mess, nesting in the curled up leaves in my front lawn and some sleet on my driveway! i told my wife to hand over the car keys. i'm going to try out that "performance/snow" toggle switch on the car to see if it can actually sense snow or not. well, while i was warming it up and switching to the snow setting, i found out i also have heated seats, so i said "what the hell" and added that to the mix. my bum warmed quickly, and i was ready to take on this scourge, just like one of you. as i exited the driveway, i realized i had made it onto the street with no fishtailing whatsoever, and decided to continue on toward work. i knew i was taking a chance with the brand new michelins, because they were not "winter tires", but i was hoping the "snow" setting would create a happy medium with the tires. it was working, because as i approached the first stop sign, i stopped right on the money, no sliding into oncoming traffic or anything. i said, Man, i could get used to this winter driving! i pulled out onto an asphalt road, and was reminded of some of your experiences with "black ice". there was no sign of any and i was then driving at highway speeds, when suddenly i saw it, a big long strip of black ice coming up. i checked my snow switch and braced myself. well, all i can figuire is that the snow switch, must heat up the regular tires, because that black ice, immediatly melted and splashed away from the car, like regular water. i felt like i was driving a snow plow, i couldn't be stopped. a few minutes later i glanced at the outside temp gauge, and it read 40F. it made me think for a minute, was it black ice or..... naw, it was black ice and i vaporised it. i made it to work fine, and look forward to another wintery commute, just like you guys, have to put up with. so if you have a "snow" switch, i would recommend, using it, if not, go ahead and get one, the black ice doesn't stand a chance.

It is snowing here in GA right now, about 3 inchs or so where I live in the north. As for the L it is parked next to the ROUSH nicly in the Garage away from the white stuff. Winter Driver 2001 Chevy dualy 8100 series.

LOL,

Damn pampered trucks! My winter beater is a '01 L. Let me tell you, it's a bitch in this snow and ice we're getting now. The slightest blip and it wants to get sideways. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a blip. Good thing I know how to drive unlike some idiots around here. What looks funny is the chunks of rubber from the dragstrip and ice in the back wheel wells!

The truth is that the wife gets the Expedition while I drive the Saturn. At least the L gets a break from the snow.
Lastly, since I am in the government's service, it's your tax dollars that bought my new vehicle. Thank you very much. Life is tough. I better get to sleep now, I have to be at work by noon tomorrow.
R/S Dennis

P.S. Please pay your taxes on time.

Man do ya think shes gonna start!!?? 2001 Expy, 8100 series? My beater costs less than you spend on coffee in a month!I drive over 90 miles every day round trip to work through the piles of snow ( I live about 40 miles from buffalo, they got over 7 ft last week) Its a 1988 5,0L Cougar for $50 (can.) thats like $30 u.s. Any takers for the cheapest (road legal)beater award? So far I think I take the cake!
