Sheriff's Lightning

Just wondering if anyone has seen or knows the sheriff down in the Florida keys who owns a lightning. Saw it back in May and just found the picture -i'll post it if i get time to scan it. Note: it's not his patrol vehicle...i just happened to pass his house and it was a white 2000L with a topper ...took a picture with his patrol car in the background...

Slapshot is from the Tampa/Clearwater area I think?

Is he saying a L used for police duties in the Keys? Slapshot's I thought was his personal truck.

routine traffic stop

LOL i could just see some ricer get pulled over for goin 2 under in like 55 zone. he comes up to him and goes "but officer i wasn't speeding" he says "i know but you car is annoying as hell. so im writing you a ticket for all the chinese writing because it obstructs your view, the fartpipe because it distracts other drivers and that huge fin on your rear end has got to go so im confiscating it." i wonder if he is allowed to use his L while patroling?? that would be something to see.

Nope, it wasn't a patrol vehicle - just the sheriff's personal vehicle. Yeah, that would be cool for pursuits or whatever.
They still use Z-28's up here on the highways between Calgary and Edmonton. White one with no markings...almost found out the hard way. It was travelling in the next lane ( same direction ) and i blew by it...then noticed a radar gun where a radar detector normally sits....slowed right down and she, the RCMP officer, pulled up next to me and smiled. Busted but no ticket.....that's a cool cop.....

I was heading to a race in Charlotte and while going through S.Carolina,a Camaro came cruising up from behind. When he got next to me I punched it and looked over and it was a State trooper.Caught me off guard.Fotunately I looked before I got stupid. No lights on it,just stickers on the side.

I am in Largo (Clearwater), not KEY Largo.....LOL

My L is a personal baby. The local sheriff's office has a few Z28's left. Their entire DUI unit used to be 93 LX 5.0's until they were all retired and replaced with new 01 Crown Vic PI's.

The FHP has some VERY new Z28's. They have the american flag design on them with the new LED low profile light bars, they are shweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

My PD has no fancy seized cars, just PI's.

Red face

How did we get from a sheriff's truck to beating up on ricers in a hot second? Hasn't this topic been beaten to death? I fail to understand why so many of you get your knickers in a knot over what someone else does to their vehicle. If bad taste were a crime, 3/4 of the people in this country belong in jail. There are more Kinkades and Keenes hanging on people's walls than Pollocks or Okeefes. Does it have something to do with the legacy of WWII? If so, then why do so many of you rice bashers lust after M3s and 500SLs? I'll bet most of you have Japanese TVs and VCRs, its hard to get anything else that's well made. I have a hard-on for the Japs, and won't buy their cars any more, but that's because of their current policies toward whaling and long-lining, not something that happened 60 years ago. My Civic was the best built, most economical, most reliable car I ever had, at least prior to my VW, far better than my Lightning. Don't get me wrong, I like my truck far more than the Civic, but for entirely different reasons that you are all aware of. I'm just glad I don't have to rely on it for daily transportation. Not everyone can afford an expensive vehicle like a Lightning, and I don't hold it against anyone who wants to go fast on a reduced income. I have a young friend who has a mildly riced out Civic that is in the 13s now. We talk cars and give each other the thumbs up all the time. Hes about to swap in a Prelude motor, and when he gets done I sure wouldn't race him for pinks. And I have another young friend with a gorgeous TT Supra. Keep trying to get him to race me, but he doesn't want to, he has ridden in my truck and thinks I would kick his butt. Maybe, but with a few mods on that puppy I would see nothing but tail lights. If a person enjoys cars, and wants to make them go faster, I do not feel the need to put them down because their taste or budget does not coincide with mine. Can't we all get along?

3/4 of them do belong in jail...

As long as they're on the street, they're fair game...

Alpha, I agree. it all is about horsepower. Everyone has different preferences. We like big American V-8's, they like little pimped out tweeked 4 bangers. I have seen some sweet imports. They spend alot of time and money on thier rides just like we do. I would buy a great condition, stock newer Supra turbo in a heartbeat!!!!! It would NOT replace the L though.
