Hey guys, new to the board, and just had a question, I have a 2000 L, with a couple mods (chip, air, shifting) and I haven't taken my truck to the track yet, but there is some kid saying that with his 89' Porshe 944 Turbo, he can beat me, and he's saying he's running low 11's and the thing is totally stock, he has nothing on it, except the turbo it was built with. He's basically trying to say he runs alot faster in a stock 89' Porshe than in a Bottled Lightning. I think he's full of it, and I'm just wondering if I'm right in my assumption that with my L I could take him, or If I should be a bit wary....Just wonderin.

My friends Dad has a 928 S, and we want for a quick blast in it and it dont feel or pick up as quick as my L and i just have Ah,Superchip,BorlaCat back,Airaid kit,..... So should be no problem for you unless he has a HKS boost thing lol, dont no what its called now ahdays im not to big on the import... so should be ah easy wipe off... LoL
I used to have a 944 and the '89 Turbo's are the fastest of the 944 Turbo line. They are very fast for 4 cyl engines but there is NO WAY it will do 11's stock. If it really is stock you will show him tail lights.... that is unless he is too far back to see them.
No his is white, so I guess we'll see this coming weekend what'll happen when we light em up...I'm just going to play it cool, not talk at all, then let my L to the talking for me...
HI!... I raced a guy in a "86" 944 TURBO last year from about a 20MPH roll. At 125mph I was a truck and a half in front of him. He was pissed to say the least. I know that the "86" 944 TURBO only goes mid to low 14's. You should have no problems beating that "89" unless he has done mods.

hey neal,
why is it that you don't trade-in for a Lightning? don't get me wrong, your truck is sweet, but it seems with all the work you have done to it you could have started with a Lightning and been that much more ahead.

HI!... HOSRACN : Yes I could of started off with a LIGHTNING but since I live in CANADA, it would of cost me about $54,000 (CAN)!!!!!! So I opted for a reg-cab, 5.4 F-150 for less than $40,000(CAN). I'm knocking on the 13 second 1/4 mile door right now. The last time to the track I ran a terrible 14.52E.T and that was with me burning off my tires all the way through 1ST gear. If I could of hooked, I'm guessing I would of gone about a 14.18 - 14.25E.T. I still have a few more mods to do over the WINTER and I need a chip re-done for my 24LB injectors. PCM still thinks I have 19LB. My goal is to go 13.8 naturally asperated. Just to prove a point that you don't need to buy LIGHTNING to go into the 13's with these trucks. Anyway the LIGHTNING guys are starting off with a supercharger and then adding mods. I'm adding mods till I can't go any faster N/A and then I'm going to install a MAGNACHARGER at around 10 PSI. That should put my truck in low 12's. I just love the looks on the MUSTANG guys faces when I beat them with a 4500lb pick-up truck and then tell them I'm N/A!
I even raced a stock "2000" LIGHTNING last year and only lost to him by one truck length by 90MPH. He also got a one truck head start on me. I did'nt know he wanted to race. He made me pull over and show him my engine. He could'nt beleive that I was'nt running a S/C or NOS. That pissed him off too!
I'm going fast in my own way, it may be different, but I'll get my low 12's eventually.

Either this Porsche owner has some secret mods, or he's got some good crack. I have extensive experience with the 944 Turbo and while they are great cars, you should have no problem beating a "stock" 944 Turbo from any year. The 88-89 model years were the fastest, but came no where close to 11 seconds (more like 13.5 secs). A simple chip will make any year 944 turbo put out close to 300 hp and produce gobs of torque, but even then, you're talking mid to high 12's at best. These cars are poor drag racers: 2.5-liter four-bangers with noticeable lag off the line. A fast time is only possible by dropping the expensive clutch while the turbo is already spooled up at higher RPMs. Since the clutches usually need servicing at 40K-50K mile intervals, sensible Porsche owners are wise to conserve their clutches. Put the 944 turbo on a road course and it's a whole new ball game. The 944 turbo out-handled the 911 at the time, and I think Car & Driver called it the "Best-Steering Car" of all-time... or something like that.
I'm a Porsche nut and 944 turbo lover, but the Lightning should easily romp on the Porsche this time. Be sure to check this guy's car out carefully! There are some 3.0 liter 944 turbos running around with bigger K-27 blowers and who knows... maybe a bottle too.
See my mildly modded (290 hp) 944 turbo below...

HI!... ZEUS LIGHTNING : I got a quote right from ROSE CITY FORD here in WINDSOR. Sticker price on a "99" LIGHTNING brand new was $47,450(CAN) x 15% ONTARIO saleas/gst taxes and you get $54,000(CAN) That's not including shipping charges.
Shadow, if this guy can run 11's he is not stock. Having said that some guys get a lot of HP out of those cars and race them, I have heard as much as 400. That kind of HP requires lots of mods. Ask him if you could take a look at that 11 sec time slip?
Holy schnappers. 47K for a new '99??
That's crazy. A brand new '01 doesn't go for more than 43K out here. Taxes in, I paid a little more than 47K for my '01.........brand new. But 54K (taxes in) for a '99 is mental.
Sorry about your luck. That's pretty harsh. What's going on out there?
