Lightning

Hey guys -

I went and looked at one of your beloved lightnings at the dealer last night for grins. I liked it....I liked it a little to much. In fact I am debating trading or selling my Super Duty off and get one. I bought my SD to do what I use my 94 250 for so it pretty much sits on the highway. Ive got a family rig in the Expedition. So tell me in all seriousness is it a good ride? Ill be driving it everyday pretty much and only have it put up while Im off working.

DUnno, hard choice between the SD and a 2 wheel drive....

You will NOT regret buying an L,even if you have to store it. For the 8 or 9 months of the year that i can drive mine,my 99 off road sits other than when i have to go to a construction site or it is raining. The only problem with owning an L is you always want to drive it and this makes keeping the milage low...a reaaaaal hard thing to do. I have seen others pull snowmobiles with there L but i don't drive mine in the dead of winter, that is modding season. Do you see the grinning smiley guy above.....this could be you.

Im going to go look at it again tomorrow. They happen to have had a black one sitting there in the show room and Im a sucker for black. But anyhow I'm sure Id love one its just I have to see if Im more a 4x4 man or a performance man. I appreciate the responses though and enjoy if nothing else the lively Lightning forum!

Well I have been doing the same as randy. I went to look at an "L" just to humor myself, but now I want one. Isn't there word of a new re-designed "L" coming out for 2003? I might be wrong. But I still wouldnt mind having that truck! They sure are dang nice!!

As far as the redesign...who knows when, probably not until 04 is the latest. If you need a back seat the new harleys come with a 340hp L motor and in less than a month we will know if there will be a 500# lighter expedition with a 380hp L motor called thunder. I hope they make them all so there are more and cheaper mods.....not to mention spare parts if i get to carried away. Time to go see how bad the lions are losing this week...gotta go.

Randy and Alan:

If you want a pickup unlike any other one, if you like speed and quickness, and if you like reliability in a 1/4 milelin' daily driver--get you one.

Mine has been all of the above and yours can too. You read of piston slap, unusual noises, tire rubber wastein' away, and a few other 'things' that some have been concerned about. So far(knock on wood), mine has been 18,000 wonderful miles-- all the way! Well, mine does suffer from that tire wastenin' thing .

I drove mine kinda 'gently' for the first 500 miles--WOT every once in awhile and kept the RPMs varied while highway cruisin'. At 500 miles I changed oil--Ford's 5W20--at 4,000 miles I switched to full-synthetic Royal Purple #11 Racing oil(their 5W20) and a K&N Gold oil filter. Mine has been down the track many times and dynoed too. I have a chip, filter kit, lower 5lb pulley, throttle body, crankcase filters, a newly installed 160 degree thermostat, and stock plugs. So far, mine has never been to a dealer although the fog light lenses are cracked(BFD).

No snow or salt here so I don't have those 'worries'. Anything else close(Corvette, Viper, LS1) will either cost more or be too low to the ground .
