GMS Mass Air Meter

Is it true with the GMS Mass air meter you need no chip to run it?
Any tuners like to comment?

Don't waste your money. If you don't need a chip to use it, that is a pretty good indicator that it isn't flowing any more air. If the flow improvement was that much better than stock, you will throw a lean code. Buy a stock 01-02 MAF if you want better flow. You will have to run a chip to see all the benefits.

The granitelli mass air is just a pro-m with a different name which means you probably do need a chip. The pro-m 80mm flows just as much air as the 90mm 01 set up,problem is your tuner choices are narrowed down to a couple when it comes to getting chips through the mail.

If GMS comes out with a 90mm, then it would be a worthwhile addition to my mods list. After I got my 01, I called a few times to see if they had a 90mm for the Gen II L. They told me that by the end of the year they would have one. 'Called a month or so ago and was told that ther current 80mm outflowed the 90mm (I know, I know, B.S.) and that there was no reason to make a 90mm.

C&L makes an 85mm that probably outflows the 90mm we already have from ford. I'd say not by much though, I really don't know. The only test I've seen reported included the addition of a K&N cone filter. They claim a gain of 33 rwhp and 10-15 lbs.-ft. of torque across the rev range on the dyno for a stock '00 L.

Wink

Actually,i would love to run a pro-m 92mm set up, but if there even out yet,the tuners have no experience with tuning them yet....so why bother. After all no tuner is going to get on these boards and say that a 90mm ford mass air outflows an 80 mm pro-m,only the misinformed would beleive this. A 92mm pro-m would by far outflow a 90mm ford set up, but were are we to get a chip.

Ask and you shall recieve. The price is almost twice that of the 80mm. I guess you always have to pay to be the first one on the block with a new toy. Maybe someone can find it cheaper.

Well, mine's the best peice of garbage I've owned. It ran strong from the install. It didn't need a chip when installed,on an otherwise stock truck. It was worth about 20 Hp.

It was the basis upon which I have based my limited mods. I have a 2# pulley, and a Swanson custom chip. The truck made 385 Hp on 91 octane gas that is available here in CA.

It has been on my truck for 34k miles, w/o a hiccup.

I have one on my truck as well. No problems with it, either. No reburn necessary, no pinging, 91 octane (all i can get here at high altitude)
