overdrive poll
I know most everyone would agree on no overdrive for drag runs, but how do most of you run on daily driver, od on or off. I drove around last night for the first time without it on and it was like a different truck. I little more fun
There is NO advantage to turning O/D off at the track unless you are running out of gear at the end of the track. I have tried it two different times at the track. I made several runs both ways and there just wasn't a nickels worth of difference. If I had to say one was faster it would be with the O/D on but that would almost be stretching it.
Around town I could see it being more responsive with O/D off.

HI!... Running with the OVERDRIVE on/off has no effect on 1/4 miles times unless you need overdrive to finishe the 1/4 mile. All the overdrive switch does it TURN THE OVERDRIVE OFF OR ON that's it!!!!!!!
Back to the poll : I do ALL my ciy driving with my overdrive "OFF".

So how much of a gas (MPG) difference would you see if say, one tank you were to drive around with OD on all the time, and the next tankfull with OD off, assuming same driving styles both tankfuls.
BTW, I have yet to drive the truck with OD off........Don't know how it feels.

Another reason that I dislike automatics; the tranny thinks it's smarter than I am (bite your tongue). Generally drive with O.D. off; the truck is more responsive that way, but its hell on the gas milage. But with my 4.10s I only get 9 mpg anyway, so do I give a rodent's behind?
If I was King of the world, the O/D off switch would be mounted in the bed and labelled "Towing In Mountains during Very hot Weather Mode". MOst useless and misused control in your cab. The computer DOES know better than you, even when it's hunting for the gear, just so happens that what's best for the box is sometimes kind of annoying, so if you want you can turn it off. Yes, it does engine brake, but again, so what? Just causes more wear when it does that....
Just what I think,

We leave O/D on all the time, city or highway. Like FT says, the tranny is smarter than any of us. Why get lower fuel economy? Goodness knows the thing surely shifts down plenty fast if you need it.
Oh, just for info sake....... the transmission will use some different internal components when you have O/D on or off. Well at least the A4LD's do (the only one I have worked on personally).
Plus, the exhaust sounds real good when it is lugging around at a low RPM in O/D and you are giving it a little bit of gas.
