Question Hitting a dead spot in top end powerband!!!

OK,

I need some suggestions on whats going on with my truck. When i'm cruising on the highway and punch the truck it first hesitates before dashing off. I noticed this soon after i installed my magnaflow 12468 mufflers. Next problem is when i reach a certain RPM through hard acceleration my truck hits a dead spot almost like the rev limiter is kicking in. I hadn't noticed this before i installed my superchip flip switch chip. I'm assuming maybe the chip has extended the shift point after about 115 mph and maybe the rev limiter kicks in. From a dead still take off i don't experience this problem. Only when i punch it from a cruise speed. Please, i need any suggestions, it sucks getting stomped on at top end when you know how bad youre suppose to whip up on certain cars (especially rice burners).

Thanks a lot.
Oh i have a stock 99L with an air raid filter....38,000 miles.. Premium fuel every time....

You don't have a 'stock' L with a chip, muffler, and an air filter kit. As for your problem, I'd pull the chip and see if the problem goes away. Most driveability problems with Ls that have a chip are traced back to the PCM's contacts not truly clean. If it runs ok without the chip then go back and reclean the contacts(see FAQ for best way to do this or call where you bot the chip).

Btw, many of the Georgia L people are coming down to Reynolds, GA on the 26th of Jan. for a test-n-tune day at the Silver Dollar Raceway. If you are interested, go to nloc.org and find GLOC on the Discussions board.

I was having problems with My truck after installing PSP's chip after a reburn. I ended up pulling the ecm mounting bracket out amd bending it so it wouldn't contact the chip. Chip was sorta angled in there. I pulled the ecm , cleaned the contacts with alcohol and as for the chip well I took a needle and pressed all the contacts inward so they would make better contact with the board contacts. By the way I was really surprised how much black crap came off the contacts for the ecm. It was nasty. I reinstalled the chip, duct taped it straight on. replaced the bracket and plugged everything in. I also put the little plastic clip that holds the ecm in place on the bracket back on , over the chip.

I was having a NO start problem...also before that the truck would shut completely down sometimes on hard runs. NOw it has a problem hitting the boost dump. I unplugged that and haven't had any further problems.....I am watching to see if I need the rev limit raised..I thought it may have hit that ...not sure yet.

anyway, clean and mount that sucker.....

99Zeus rtrns,
I've been on the board for 2 years, and I remember quite some time ago Superchips was having a problem with their chips where people where "hitting a brickwall" at high end rpm. Get in contact with Superchips and see which burn you have. Most likely that is your problem and a reburn will resolve this.

Thanks a lot guys!

Ok thats all i'm hoping the problem is. The flip chip is operating

in a single mode. i bought the chip from a buddy whose truck is a

fine on his truck. When we both installed the CUX1 on my truck, it

made a ticking sound from somewhere under the hood and it

would turn over but wouldn't fire. So i took the chip to the nearest

performance shop that reburns chips for superchip and its not

exactly the same program that he had on his. Instead of the

normal mode on program one and high performance track mode

on program two my program two is obsolete. Reason the chip

didn't work on my truck was my PCU was reflashed to a 2000

meaning i had to have the chip reburn for a 00"L. Well when i

reinstalled the chip, program 1 is where i'm having my problem,

but when i flip to program two, my fuel pump stays on and the

truck will turn over but won't fire..I guess its a security feature

that comes with whatever program they reburned my chip for..LOL

Anyway i thought i may include that to maybe help you guys help

me figure out what the problem is...Thanks!!!

Cool

When I had the R9 program above 100 mph it seem to hit the brickwall and not accelerate as fast.
