Stock Boost Question....

Hey all you guys out there with 2001 STOCK lightnings....at WOT, what does your boost gauge go up to?? I thought the needle would only go up to about 8psi....well my boost gauge goes up to 9 then creeps to 10 and then crawls past 10 ....i have absolutely NO MODS whatsoever (yet) and was wondering if my truck is quicker than the norm , or the boost gauge is messed up, or if this is normal?? Remember, my gauge goes past 10psi ...also, on the guage, when the truck is just idling without touching the throttle, the boost guage doesnt go all the way to the bottom...it sort of floats in the middle of the "VAC" area ....anyways anyone have any input on this?? any help would be great!!
thanks!....

The stock boost gauge is not very relieable at all. It does give you a base line to go by but the numbers are not true. At stock my gauge responded very close the what you explaining except mine has always ran at the bottom of the Vac. scale when at idle or just driving around normal. Now that I have a pulley it still stays at the bottom of the Vac until I get on it. I can drive 80 to 90 mph without any boost at all as long as I'm not into the throttle deep.

Your gauge is messed up. Mine does the same thing(its stock as well) but it goes all the way down to 0. But when the pedal is to the floor(which its there a lot) it is almost an inch past full boost. I was thinking of going to the Dealership around here and Getting it fixed but that would just give some a$$hole a reason to go beat on my truck to see if the gauge worked right. So I'll just wait till after X-mas then go buy a pulley or two and not worry about the correct BOOST reading.

Moto,Look at the gauge when you(while under boost )rapidly back out of the throttle@this point it should be at its lowest point.

Hey moto

Hey moto.....my boost gauge is like that too....mine goes to about 11psi...and its all stock. But mine also goes all the way to the bottom on the vacuum side. But i know that no way is it boosting 11 psi from the factory...cause it feels sluggish i think.
Guess thats cause im used to my vorteched cobra i sold for the L. It couldnt keep the tires planted....and also speed is decieving in a truck.

I test drove an 01 with 30 miles on the odometer with no salesman and it burned rubber at will and the stock gauge read 10 lbs.

Cool

My 01 stock would go to 10 pounds also but alot of this is due to the cooler temps because of winter. In warm air it will be back to 8-9 on most trucks stock.
