I read all the posts on not getting any hp increase with exhaust work. If your running stock 8# boost or maybe even an extra 2-3, you may in fact not benefit from exhaust upgrades. But if your gonna run 4#'s and up, there is a considerable gain in power by just swapping mufflers. I ran 5#'s with the stock exhaust for two days then had the magnaflow (12468) installed and there was a definate gain in hp and torque!!! It only makes sense, if you put more air in, you have to get more air out, and the stock exhaust system is too restrictive for 4#'s of boost or higher. I can only imagine what headers would do! Just my .02, take it FWIW.

But by using that logic then, shouldn't we all benefit from a header/cat-back full exhaust system, whether we're running stock or added boost??........Regardless of which case, we're all running boost! My understanding has always been that exhausts on NA vehicles do little to nothing. However on SC/d or turbo'd applications, any increase in airflow via exhaust upgrades will benefit.............so was I wrong?

I would have to think that Ford developed the stock exhaust system to work well with the 'stock' Lightning engine. So it only makes sense to me that when you start increasing the air flow through the motor, the stock exhaust becomes the bottleneck. The more air you push over stock, the more benefit you see from an aftermarket exhaust.

I'll take a set..

JL is smart, researchs other products available, then tweaks them to perform at the max. for us L owners.

I would say that's innovation, not duplication.

Hey Guys,

Just a reminder..

We all better order our Long Tube "EQUAL" headers from JL ASAP. JL has a special price for all orders placed for the build date of Jan. 11, 2002. So here's our chance to save some $$$, I know you wouldn't want to miss out.

These are proven headers used by "Totaled" and " Charlie's L".

They will also fit 5.4 F-150's and Expedition's.

If you want a set, Better give JL a call soon @

Happy New Year to everyone...

Question for JL, or anyone

What's the difference between the long tubes and equal length headers? Does one make more power then the other? Just asking because i have bassani headers on now(maybe its time for a switch).

What's up DL! I hope your ready for the spring..
