Getting screwed by USAA

I got one accident added to my recored (got run off the road and into a bunch of trees) and USAA triples my rate to over $500!
I dont see the bases for such a drastic increase over an accident that wasent my fault. But i guess they only see it as a 7 grand repare bill. Im switching after the $h!t they gave me on the phone, so what insurence do yall use.

In addition to the accident, do you have any moving violations on your record? USAA (as most insurers do) run a DMV report once a year on each policyholder in order to verify your driving record. Perhaps you had a ticket during the past year? Combined with the accident, your premium rates would increase If you don't understand the reasons for your increase, give them a call. Ask to speak with a supervisor. They should explain the reasons for the increase. Unfortunately, most insurers treat premiums on the same basis. If you change insurance carriers, you must disclose your previous accident. Other carriers will ask for the name of your previous company (they exchange information, so you can't hide the accident) You will probably run into the same problem with another carrier (higher rates). I think USAA allows one "negative" (accident/ticket) before raising your rates. Hope this helps!

I use USAA for cars and home. Never had to file a claim, though. They are generally rated as one of the top three insurance companies in the country. It is very disturbing to hear that they would raise your rates like that. But then, some companies would just immediately drop you. Do you have any moving violations or other incidents on your record with them?

My '99 is insured with USAA. They actually have two different companies/sections that underwrite auto policies. Once you hit a certain number or $$ value in claims, you are ineligible for the first insurer. So, if you saw a sharp spike in rates, you were likely bumped down the the lower-end insurer.

USAA is a great company to have on your side, but they can be pretty inflexible about their regulations. I guess it's the military heritage.
