Angry How many have had intercooler replaced more than once??

Hey all, did the intercooler replacment on my truck not more than 2 months ago, and it blew out on the way to my Christmas party. What's up with that, thought it was supposed to be "New and improved" evidently not. It just hacks me off that i have to do it again!! Sorry for the rant. Shawn

Blew out? That's a new way to put it. What do you mean?

Most people wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly when their i/c started leaking.

Haven't heard of the revised intercoolers leaking...I wonder if you got an old one

What did you mean by "blew out"? The leaks usually start as just weeping cracks, not an all out gaping hole.

Bought my truck new in October 2000.

Stock IC started leaking in February 2001 (with ~ 18,000 miles); had it replaced.

2nd IC started leaking in September 2001 (with ~ 40,000 miles); had that replaced.

I guess the third time's a charm, cause this one is still holding up with just over 48,000 miles (but let's just say my fingers are crossed).

Later...

Red face

Sorry for using the term blew out, it's just that it didnt take long for the resivor to empty, (14 miles round trip). I haven't tore it down yet, so i don't know how bad it is. I was supposed to have the "New and Revised" assembly, and the part #'s checked out. I'll look closer at the new one when it comes in. It just tweeks my @$$ that i have to do it again! Later Shawn

Are you sure...

...that it wasn't already empty before you checked it this last time? I let my first IC go for a lonnnnnnnnng time before I finally got it fixed, and even then I could go over 100 miles on 1/2 tank (OF ANTIFREEZE, not gas!). If it really did empty from full in 14 miles all of sudden, I think you have another problem somewhere else, especially if the #'s checked out and you think you got the new IC. Actually, here's a back of the envelope check: when you got your IC replaced this last time, did it feel faster afterwards and were you building more boost? I noticed I was, and a lot of other people said the same thing. If not, then you may have got one of the last remaining IC's Ford had lying around.

Good luck with it.

40k on my 2000. On my third IC this year. They put in the upgraded one last Oct. So far, I've got 8,000 on it with no leakage.

Both the original, and the first replacement started leaking when they had almost exactly 13,500 miles on them.

I had my 1st intercooler start leaking at 8,000 miles. Second one just started at 29,000 looks like it is time to get the recall intercooler, recall wiper motor cover, recall spare, and turn signal fix. A lot of BS for a 2 year old truck!

Was the intercooler (intake kit) part number XL3Z 9424 AB

That's the 2001 intercooler with the middle intake adaptor for our older blowers.
