Lightning owners in Santa Barbara, SLO
I'm heading to SLO on Saturday and may go to Santa Barbara for dinner on Friday night or stop there for breakfast on Saturday.
Anyone interested in joining me for a meal?
Also, I'll be in a Red Volkswagon Bug and challange any Lightning to try and keep up with me over San Marcos Pass.

I'll accept your challenge, Jorge. Remember, there's a two lane straight stretch before the twisties, and I think I'd be so far ahead you'd never catch me.
Anyway, I might be up for dinner Friday night, and I sent you an e-mail about someone else who might want to join us.

George, there isa fella in SLO by the name of Doug Hilyard. I met his partner, but not him. He has a red 2001. He owns Hilyard Constructon, but I don't know if he monitors or posts on the board. I've got their phone number if you are interested
I have also seen a YELLOW (yes, yellow) Lightning in SB a couple of times.
I also met a couple in a white L at the Great American Fish House in Morro Bay. If you are up for a good fish dinner, that's the place in that neighborhood.

Jay,
I'll probably have dinner at Cafe Roma in SLO, but the next time I'm there, I'll try the Great American Fish House. Thank for the lead! Alphadoggy also gave me the email of a Lightning owner in SB, so maybe I'll have breakfast at Joe's Cafe (or anywhere else suggested) in SB and then head to SLO afterwards. Email me Doug's phone and I'll give him a call.
George,
I got your email. Hopefully we can get a small group together for breakfast on Saturday and possible dinner on Friday.
I'm aware of the stretch of road headed up before the twisties, but if there's another car on the road, I'll make sure both lanes are blocked and you can't pass. Then the only chance you have to pass is at the SHORT passing areas in the twisties and if you don't know exactly where they are, they'll pass by you before the tranny downshifts. So I expect I'll still summit first! Actually I'm kidding about racing on that road because it's dangerous. I used to drive it often and saw too many accidents. Most of them were along the stretch between the Solvang cutoff and Los Olivos, but I still witnessed several before and after the Lake Cachuma campground.

Jay, the only yellow Lightning I've seen in Santa Barbara (or anywhere else for that matter) had ServiceMaster signs on it. Some work truck. I heard a rumor that the guy crashed it, perhaps totaled it, but I don't know.
And Jorge, I hope you can arrange something for Friday night. I asked my wife and she wants to go, too. As for San Marcos Pass, I am very familiar with that road and location of the passing zones. Most of them are so short that it would be ill-advised to try to pass a fast moving vehicle, but there is one near the top, where I dusted a Z28 who wanted to get racy last year, that pulling a pass on a V-dub should be no sweat. But you are right, I was jesting, I would never race anyone for real on that road, too dangerous, plus you're just liable to come around a curve and meet a damned chippie with their forward looking radar, and I can't afford any more tickets.

Alpha, that's the one that I saw. Servicemaster, but a real Lightning. I say it a couple of months ago.
Spike Egr. Joe's Cafe is a great place, for prime rib. SB has lot's of small restaurants that are great.
I was partial to the NY Hero House in the student ghetto (Isla Vista). They made the greasiest hero sandwiches. It was started by a mob refugee, looking to disappear form the NY scene. I'm a UCSB alumnus.

The first time I ate at Joe's was when I was going to Cal Poly. I drove down with my girlfriend (who grew up in Goleta) and she had never been to Joe's. We were both hungry and decided to order the New York steak for two. After the soup, salad, bread, and onion rings we weren't as hungry when we ordered. Later on, the waiter rolled up the cart with the steak (the size of a small loaf of bread) and a couple commented "are you going to eat all that?!" We jokingly said "yes and we're going to eat THAT also" and pointed to the two speghetti dinners with the potatoes and tomatoes that was on the bottom tray of the cart.
Needless to say, we were shocked when the five cut slabs of the steak were put on spegetti dinners and plopped on our table! It was plenty of food for the weekend.
I have had the Prime Rib and you're right - it's excellent!
Then I'll make arrangements to join you! I'll be at the Jonathan Club in downtown L.A. until 4, so most likely it won't be an early dinner because of traffic. Let me know where you want to meet.

Several of us and wifes got together on Friday night for dinner in Ventura and we had a great time! I look forward to meeting with all of you again some time.
I spent Friday night and Saturday morning at east beach and to the "lurker," thank you very much for the tour! It was fantastic.
My wife and saw a red lightning several times while we were doing our Christmas shopping in SLO and a black one with a Dublin licence plate frame drove by us near Atascadero.
One of the items discussed was arranging a road trip along the central coast and maybe thru the wine country (Napa area). Any interest?
