i am gettin detenation again i just got my chip back from JL yesterday installed it last night drove it everything was fine go to work today everything fine now here it comes coming home from work tonight detenation i hear i say to myself no way turn radio heat off and i hear it good old mr . detenation i am like **** , what do u guys think is wrong with my truck i just got i/c recall done in and the same week i had to have them replace a plug/coil pack it was givin me a ruff idle and ruff ride which it is doing again what should i do and what the hell is wrong with my truck . thanx for the help later chris

when does the detonation happen? high rpm or toe-in at hwy speed (lugging it). i'd check that rough idle first, before working on the chip

 

if i am on the hi-way and just tap on the gas i hear it or if i go to get on it on the hi-way or just cruisin i hear too

 

The cruise part is puzzling, are you sure it's detonation, or could it be related to the rough idle. if mine was idleing rough, i'd remove the chip. it's only going to make it worse. get it back to the dealer and get them to fix it, then if you have pinging on the toe-in, JL can pull a little timing, to take care of that. have you just gone to "winter" gas, or has that been going on for a while up there?

 

i have been on winter gas for awhile i drive my truck everyday .it is going to the shop tomorrow we will see what is wrong with it tomorrow it is puzzling to me also . thanx for the help any tuners can chime in on this please especially JL later

 

I have had my JL Diablo chip since he first changed to Diablo with no problems @ all. I sent it back a month ago for an upgrade for my new pulley & it works perfectly, no detonation at all. I do have a good source for 93 Octane fuel year round however. Good luck.

 

Hey buddy, I've had some of the same problem your talking about. Before I even had a chip I was having a det. problem on the high end until I changed gas. I can't run a certain few brands at all. When I'm racing I make sure I have a real good Octane number. This cured my problem totally but I sent my chip back two days ago to have it richened up some before something happened to me. The cool dense air is just making it run to lean.

 

i just refilled yesterdaywith amaco and i get it there often and never had a problem . i am totally lost on this one i will se what the dealer comes up with tomorrow

the chip code is cux295p7 the only other mod i have is your air filter kit JL .

 

do u think i should change my plugs being that the I/C was leaking bad and that the dealer never checked them or the 02's .later chris

 

Definitely change your plugs.

 

i would go to the it20's we have them in stock. but i think you should get a different file if its still pinging on that 1. just let me know and we'll fix ya up.....JL

 

i aint going to send the chip back just yet because i want to see what i get for christmas i asked for a lower pulley ,line valve mod also . i have the ngktr6's should i go with those or the it20's what do u think JL , i might even just go with the denso's in the spring .
