Question need help please respond!!!

i was driving my friends rsx and i miss shifted by not holding in the clutch long enough and it grinded the gears. ill cut to the chase we took it to the dealer and they said that i blew a valve and it bit a spark plug. they say he has to get a new engine. that parts under warranty but i have to pay of the installation which is 900$ hes gonna pay the other. do u guys think that he should pay it all since it was his car and it was his responsibilty or should i pay. they say the reason i blew the valve was because i shifted from 4 to 1. if so would that blow it???

Yep,

going from 4th to 1st could bend a valve and maybe cause some other collateral internal engine damage. As to who should pay for it--can't aswer that but I think it's your fault?

DAMN! '

Going from WOT 4th gear downshifting to 1st and letting the clutch out is what killed it. That's a no no.

I would think your at fault if your driving, but then again I would think the car would be covered under the warrenty for the install also even if it was your fault. I would make the dealer pay.

Unfortunately, I think everyone here is correct, I think you should pay for your share. It sounds like your friend is trying to help with some of the cost, that shows he also feels bad about what happened. I had a similar situation in which my good friend totaled my 2000 4X4, and I had to(my insurance) paid for it, but I am making him pay me some money for his mess up. My insurance company told me since I had given him permission to drive the truck, it was my responsibility. NO ONE but the wife gets to drive any of my vehicles from now on. One good thing came out of it though, I did get my L!!!

Most guys here would expect you to pay for it, but only after you got out of intensive care...

Which was it? How can you go from 4th to 1st by holding the clutch to long?

But, you broke it you bought it (pay for it in this case). That sucks though.

Remember one thing. The delaer is there to make money thats it.

If they offered to get a new engine under warranty ,that should mean they also got the go ahead to install it under warranty. If they didnt, they wouldnt offer a new engine now would they? They wouldnt just get as much $$ from the factory to install it as they would by 'asking you to pay.'

I'd take the engine and install the damn thing myself. If I had the cash, I'd throw in a stage 2 clutch, to replace the abused old one, and by saying I installed a stage 2 clutch will impress all my friends.

But I wouldnt have driven the RSX to begin with, becuase it wouldnt have impressed my friends, unless ofcourse it had a lot of stickers.

Your friend should pay

I think your friend should pay since he is stupid enough to let you molest his vehicle.

Was he in the truck or did you borrow it. If he was in the truck - it's on him. otherwise it's on you.

Actually - ford would pay if you had not explained the circumstances to them. - Take it to another dealer and play dumb. The warranty would cover it I'm sure.

Try the expanation below...

Errrrr...duh.. I don't know it just started runnin real crappy - could you see what is wrong with it.. It's under warranty ain't it.. duh....
