Lightning with Blowoff valves?
Lightning with Blowoff valves?
Im looking for opinions and ideas:
what do you think of having blowoff valves?
how do you think they could be installed?
do you know what a blowoff valve is?
My answers:
what do you think of having blowoff valves? I think they sound really coool, and can be helpful, and yes I have seen them on blower cars too...
how do you think they could be installed? I have a couple ideas, I need to research more closely though.
do you know what a blowoff valve is? A blowoff valve is exactly what it sounds like. Its a presure release valve used comonly on turbo cars to spool off the extra boost during deceleration... the spool off effect is what creates the "whooosh" sound on the Stockholm video of the turbo cosworth.
Im just looking for ideas and opinions....

understand how the truck works, that was not the question... the waste gate does not make the sound... even though you may not like that... I kinda do... I used to have a TT Supra, and loved the sound of the HKS blowoffs....
they make some ricer product that is just a recording of the blowoff sound that gets played whenever its supposed to
definately not meant for an L though, if i ever saw anyone with a fake blowoff recording going on, i think i'd definately have to whack them over the head with my maglight

That sound on the Cosworth was a Bypass Valve not a Blow Off Valve. Similar in design, the bypass valve redirects the vented air back into the intake hence the surging sound whereas the blow off.....well blows off to atomosphere making that ricer swoooshing sound.
The Bypass valve on our supercharged engines remains open at idle where as the blow off valve remains closed. If you eliminate the bypass or prop it shut, with a small enough pulley, it is possible to make boost at idle. Since the rotors on the supercharger are RPM driven and the bypass valve opens with manifold vacuum, I don't think you would get much of a swooshing sound to impress your friends with. However if sounds and stickers are your bag......lemme introduce to you:

The Supra was the first year of the new body style, I got it when it first came out. I trade vehicles about every year to 2 years, so it got traded a while back for a mustang cobra vert.

A blow off valve and a by pass valve are basically the same thing. They are both designed to vent high boost pressure on deceleration. The blow off valve is mainly used on turbo applications, and simply vents the boost to the atmosphere, giving the "sound". A by pass valve is mainly used on blower apllications, and usually vents the pressure back into the intake stream, usually before the blower, which is why you don't hear it.
On our trucks, the by pass is part of the blower. The rear chamber of the case is the pathway for the air to travel from boost under the blower to back before the blower. I don't really see any way to vent that to the outside unless you want to block off the stock by pass, cut a hole in the blower case, and weld a mount for a blow off valve there.
