Calling 351stang.....

351stang,
Several months ago, you purchased an Passport 8500 radar dector. Well, I am in the same boat now, V1 or Passport 8500, can't decide although I am leaning towards a Passport 8500.

Are you pleased with the purchase and its performance. Thanks in advance.

I'm happy with it

I've been really happy with it. I picked it up for around $260 online.

I am really impressed with the lack of false alarms. I can drive 400 miles without getting one. I'm also impressed with the distance that you get a warning. I have gotten several warnings even though the cop is using instant on.

The only complaint I have is that the mounting bracket slides back when you hit bumps. It doesn't completely disengage, but it comes back one click. The good thing about the mounting system is that you can quickly remove the detector and leave the suction cups in place. I always remove the detector when I'm not in the car, so it's nice.

I would recomend this to someone who doesn't want to sped $400 on the Valentine. It's a great detector.

Thanks 351stang,
That is what I was hoping you would say. The lack of false alarms is very important to me. Years ago, I had a detector that had a lot of false alarms. Got to where I could "decode" the sound the unit made as to whether it was a bogy or not. But nonetheless, the beeping got tiresome. Also I want to pocket the $150 savings.
