Boost Bypasss=More HP????

Everyones been talking about getting rid of the boost bypass. I was just reading on the Magnuson website that the boost bypass in a way gives you HP. When your cruising at like 60 and your in vaccum(sp?), if your bypass is closed, you loose hp, i think. i know that it doesnt really matter when your cruising, cuz when you floor it your goin to be in boost. but it thought i would post this ne way.
here just go to this page and read it

We were talking about Boost Dump not Boost bypass. These trucks come with a wastegate (Bypass) from the factory attached to either the Eaton or the intake (Not sure, would have to look but dont have a truck to look on).

When running around town the wastegate is open most of the time dumping excess boost that is not need and would case extra heat. When you hit WOT, the vacume is gone and the wastegate is closed allowing possitive boost.

Is that clear enough or do I have to write a book?

Tommy

You're both talking about the same thing...the point is that if you disconnect the boost bypass, you don't allow the blower to freewheel in vacuum conditions(wasting HP as heat). Think of the bypass as a way of equalizing the pressure before and after the blower. If the bypass is disabled, the blower is always going to have pumping losses due to the differences in pressure. If you have 14 lbs vacuum before the blower, you may have only 12 at the manifold.
Also, when you close the throttle, the air supply to the blower is suddenly cut off. The bypass valve allows a smoother transition to vacuum and back to boost when you open the throttle again.
BTW, I've got mine disconnected...my engine warms up quick in this cool weather.

Oh boy here we go again. The boost dump is when the PCM sees excessive rpm's or one of many many engine/tranny problems then it is activated. This is why people disconnect the electrical plug at the track(some on the street). With it unplugged you will NOT dump boost. Some people choose to buy the kit(don't know why) for this function. The boost bypass is vacuum operated and different from the boost dump. They both use the SAME butterfly that is in the bottom/back of the blower. The boost bypass is solely dependent on engine vacuum or the lack of it to operate. Do I need to write a book.....heheheheh thats for you LB....LOL

ok,, so our trucks have both a boost dump and a boost bypass in them. Boost dump is what we unplug to stop our trucks from mistakingly dumping extra boost when we need it. Boost bypass is used to control boost pressure and engine heat so that our boost is used to its maximum capabilities.

I hope thats right cause thats the only thing that makes cents to me

my bad, i thought they were the same. so if you unplug the boost dump(which is what everyone is doing?), you will still have the boost bypass? right?

thanks
